Guest guest
Ivy, we have several members who use OxyContin safely. For them, it has been an effective tool in the management of their serious, chronic pain. I'm not sure what you mean by " It actually permanantly rearranges the molecules in your body. " Could you please provide a source for this statement? In those who use opioids for the treatment of their chronic nonmalignant pain, true addiction is rare. Physical dependence is common, but that is much different than addiction. An individual who is using OxyContin as directed by his or her physician will likely only be " addicted " to it in the same way that you may become " addicted " to the methylprednisone you currently take should you stay on it long term. I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Dear Ivy: Here is my 2 cents: You don't know what you are talking about. Many people use these pain medicines for years and have no problem with addiction. It is people like you who, talk off the top of your head that makes it bad for the rest of us, who use these medicines with no problem. If you are allergic to them, that's your problem but it doesn't mean the rest of us are going to be, or that these medicines are so dangerous to use that we shouldn't use them. Don't give other people your advice because what effects you may not effect others. You are not an expert any way to give advice to others just because certain medicines effected you a certain way. That's my 2 cents. Sincerely, Anjillah.
Guest guest
Hi - I didn't mean to speak out of turn, just speaking from my own experience. I don't remember the source, as it was 2 years ago when I had my spinal surgery and looked up the info on the net. I had read quite a few articles on it at the time before I made my decision to get off of it. If someone needs a medication that's a different story. I understand we all have varying degrees of pain and some respond well to certain meds and others don't. I didn't like the research and what I read on it and my conclusion was to get off of it as quickly as possible. The doctors wanted to keep me on it long term, but I'm resistant to taking pain killers whether I need them or not. I understand we're not all the same though. I do urge people who are on that or any other medicine to do their research though. Doctors don't always tell you what's best for you. Their job, most of the time, is to write you a prescription and shut you up. It has been my experience and the experience of most of the people I know to look out for their own health these days. Yes, we all need doctors, but if I had listened to them by now I'd be a drug addict on painkillers and antidepressants which I don't need. Basically what I'm saying is do your homework. I'm sorry I don't have the source of my quote since it was 2 years ago. I also know what I went through getting off of the oxycontin. Although I was on it only 2 months I had to go through heroin like withdrawals where my husband had to hold my body down it was shaking so bad for almost a week. It was a nightmare for me. For those that need it, I'm glad they have it. It's better then being in pain. I just urge people not to be so quick to take pills that they're not familiar with.... Guest guest
I have been taking Oxycontin on and off for a year. I also take Percocet for break through pain. Without these meds I wouldn't be able to walk. As far as being addicted, if I don't need them I don't even think of them On any given day if there are thing I want to do, By bedtime I will have taken 3,(80mg) Oxycontin and 6 percocet. Some days I could take 4 oxy but those night I am up all night scratching LOL. I would, however, be interested in the dangerous aspects. Guest guest
I took oxycontion for two days after my hysterectomy. It did nothing for the pain, just made me very tired and I slept most of the time. Pain meds tend to do that to me.
