delicate patient situation

I am looking for some assistance with a particular patient in a LTC

facility (MA insurance). She is 40ish (A & Ox3) and has been diagnosed

with RSD. She has multiple sites of pain with varying pain levels.

Functionally, she is (I) with ADL's, WC mobility [has been

non-ambulatory for several years], transfers, bed mobility.

She has been receiving PT treatment off and on for ~ 2 years. Every

time she goes to her doctor, she gets a new prescription for treatment.

The therapist has tried to explain why therapy is not indicated to

both the patient and her physician, to no avail(has used info from

texts and also The Guide).

This patient is a VERY active advocate (for herself and others). She

believes that it is her right to receive treatment, and that the

facility should be providing the treatment she WANTS.

We are looking for additional resources to support discontinuing

therapy, particularly research articles relating to treatment of

chronic pain via US and e-stim. I've tried doing a search through

Medline, but have had little success (I don't really understand how to

best select the search criteria).

1. Has anyone had experience with a similar situation?

2. Does anyone have any articles that may be applicable (or can you

give me guidelines on how to more effectively structure my query!)

Thanks for your help!
