Guest guest
Is it common for people with RA to Develope Lupus also. I had an appt. with my rheumy yesterday and my last blood test shows possitive for lupus. I have a rash across my cheeks and nose in which they said could be lupus or a sun reaction, but do not have rash any where else. No mouth or nose sores. Anyone have any commments to help? Guest guest
Hi Renate, I also have Lupus and RA. I have the positive ANA for Lupus and the rash across my nose and cheeks. They call that the butterfly rash (nice eh?) and I get sores in my mouth occassionally - on my tounge. (But I never knew if that was related.) The rashes certainly are. I also get the rashes on my chest, stomach and low back at times. Getting a Lupus Dx can be something that developes over time. Not such a cut and dry thing. Your doctor will probably want to watch what happens with you and test you a lot and the picture will get clearer thru time. But the Lupus/RA overlap is not uncommon from what I know (which is some.) How long have you known about the RA and how was that Dxed? Carol > Is it common for people with RA to Develope Lupus also. Guest guest
Prednisone can cause this rash. It could also be a histamine reaction to pain. I do that too. I get it all over though. Butterfly across my cheeks and nose, and patchy rash every where else. You haven't noticed any where else?? Guest guest
Marina, I have not noticed it any where else. The rheumy thinks maybe the sun. I have not been out though. Keeps asking about mouth sores and I don't have any more than normal with dentures. I guess it will be a waiting game again to see what becomes of it. It sure is a burning sensation on my cheeks and nose though. Thanks Renate [ ] Ra and Lupus > > > > > > > > > > Is it common for people with RA to Develope Lupus also. Guest guest
I have known about the RA since last August. I went to a Chiropractor (sp) and he popped every joint I have and made an adjustment in my neck. The next day I could not get out of bed I hurt so bad. I have had alot of problems with my ankles and knees for years. I went to several different doctors before I got the dx of RA. I also got a pinched nerve in my neck for the adjustment. It has been fixed. I have a torn rotator cuff that they will not do anything to because of the meds. I take. It has been a very trying and painful year. Guest guest
Renate, if the facial rash and positive ANA are new and have occurred only after you added Enbrel, the Enbrel could be responsible. I'll tell you where to go! Mayo Clinic in Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester s Hopkins Medicine http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org Re: [ ] Ra and Lupus > > > > Hello, Renate! > > > > No it is not common for people with RA to develop lupus. Guest guest
I hope so. Guest guest
Actually Renate, it is NOT common to have RA and Lupus. The rash on your face can be from the Mtx. Mtx can cause skin rash and it also can make you more sun sensitive. When I was on mtx, I got rashes on my face when I went out in the sun. Sun, Your Arthritis, and Your Medications http://rheumatology.hss.edu/pat/specInfo/sideEffects/sun.asp As far as the blood test, Lupus is like RA in that there is no specific blood test to get a firm diagnosis. Your ANA probably came out positive, but that doesn¹t mean you have lupus. My ANA is positive but I don¹t have lupus. There are many reasons for a positive ANA and some of them have symptoms that are similar to lupus. Did you doctor say you could have lupus INSTEAD of RA? Do you have copies of your blood test?
