Hi Tony,

Just a couple more thoughts about the many very pertinent points in your email -

It would seem things are becoming more ‘lean and mean’ in UK health services? I recently went online to which a UK site answered and told me how much I cost the govt for medications as if I were eating them as lollies – she hadn’t noticed I was in Australia. Our own health services are riddled with several decades of bad management... I do understand something of the protocols, but did feel that was a bit rich!

Anyhow, my main point: research for bronchiectasis. One article I read states no research has been done in last 40-50 years (www.australiandoctor.com.au/ htt/pdf/AD_HTT_031_038___MAY20_05.pdf). I find websites claiming bronch is not a serious disease; those with bronch can live a normal life b/c abx have all but eliminated any real threat; that it is a disease of ‘3rd world’ countries (Africa mainly, India) and Aust Aboriginals ( no need to worry about it too much, it doesn’t affect people in the ‘1st world’...). Apart from being misleading it implies that it is not important enough for research....that it has been ‘taken care of’.

I have been experienced decades of mismanagement, and still do. If I say I’m unwell, but don’t fit all the ‘criteria’ nothing happens......until VERY unwell, and need to be hospitalised. HOW to break that cycle? I don’t know. This site has given me the knowledge I’m certainly not the only one dealing with this on a day-to-day basis, and that many others w/ bronch also tackle other conditions equally, and more, formidable. Any ideas how do we lobby for better research, more education at least for GPs so they know what they’re dealing with?

you may be interested in an article “how to treat bronchiectasis” which postulates that bronch be understood as a syndrome, rather than a disease... The link is

I would love to see any further research, papers etc since 2005 if anyone knows of any??

Again, thx for your informative email...

Joy
