Guest guest
Hi , Antibiotics are concerned DMARDs. I just don't know why they are not as effective as they've been for the past 10 years. I am still trying with them, prednisone and bextra or naprosyn. If I need more, I think I will try a sulphur drug first. Don't know if anyone on the list is on that. I still am very much afraid of Methotrexate or enbrel. Don't want to compromise my immune system more than it is. If I have no choice, I will go on enbrel. Thanks, ette
Guest guest
ette, only minocycline (not doxycycline yet) has made its way into some of the traditional circles and has a growing acceptance as a DMARD, and, at this time, it is only recommended for mild or moderate RA since its ability to control erosive disease is still unproven. Yes, we do have people in the group on sulfasalazine. It's usually used for milder disease. Do you have erosions or deformities? I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Hi ette. I am curious why you are afraid of MTX and Enbrel. I understand not wanting to take drugs, but my fear from watching my mom with RA most of my life is joint damage. I fear that more than anything because it's disabling. I have never heard mtx or enbrel can compromise your immune system further. I always felt RA is causing my immune system problems, not the drugs. And if the drugs make my RA stay in check, then my immune system is otherwise functioning very well. My other question is why Enbrel over Humira? Not a big deal, but why would you want to mix the medication yourself and have to take it 4 times as often? I know there are differences in the drugs, but I don't necessarily understand what they are. I am on Humira, but my mom has been on Enbrel since it was in the test phase. Guest guest
Hi , I have a deformity in my right thumb. Other than that, it's mainly stiffness and at times pain and stiffness. When I am doing well - no flare-up, I have stiffness only a short while in the AM. I hope to stay on the antibiotics unless I see a major change and then I will have to try one of the stronger meds. However, I don't like what I've been reading about hair loss with MTX and cancer, long-term. And compromised immune system with the biological drugs. ette
