Mouse cells are used in the preparation of Remicade. The Remicade

antibodies are biologically engineered in a mouse and the ends of these

antibodies are cut off and replaced with human antibodies. So actually

these antibodies are 25% mouse and 75% human. They give TNF to mice and

the mice develop an immune reaction to the TNF causing the mice to make

antibodies against the TNF. Then they are able to pinpoint the mouse's DNA

that is actually making the anti-TNF antibodies and hook it to DNA that

makes human antibodies. This new antibody binds to TNF. TNF is Tumor

Necrosis Factor, a protein found in blood that causes inflammation.

It may be a creepy thought to have medicine made with mice, but it's helped

many people. Try not to think about how it's made.

Lots of beef hearts in hot dogs. I stood and read label after label

when my daughter was little, trying to find one without hearts. (No

luck.) Now I see they are less specific the ingredients listing--they

just call it " mechanically separated beef " , etc. I haven't eaten a

regular hot dog in 15 years. (But I would take Humira.)
