If this is not more dangerous then any pain meds I don't know what is. , If you don't mind me asking, what other meds are you taking with the Prednisone? And what I'm most interested in is did you feel better right away after you started the Prednisone (if you can remember, I know you said you've been taking the Prednisone for 15 years)?? Guest guest
from gemini6849, I have been on prednisone for approx. 7years now. It has affected my bones, skin, and weight. I have not been able to go below 10mg per day since I have started. I am now taking Prenisone, Methatrexate Inj., Humira Inj. Disalsid 750mg tables (3 tablets twice a day). I have noticed since I started the Humira that I am have more movement and less pain. I hope to start decreasing my Prednisone by next week. My goal is to go completely off of Prednisone. I have to take Fosamax 70mg due to the lose of bone. Prednisone is not as nice to the body as some may think. I also have moon face along with the starting of a " Buffalo Hump " between my shoulders. I am praying to get rid of this monster as soon as possible. I have gained a total of 50 lbs while on this medication. If you have had to take prednisone, what are your experiences and how long does it take to get back to normal on weight and MOON FACE? Guest guest
Hello there: I started the prednisone a long time ago. Actually it was about 18 years ago when I first got my kidney transplant that I started taking it. I don't remember how it made me feel because I was put on it for my transplant and not RA. I didn't have RA back then, I only got it 7 years ago. I was put on the prednisone when I was in ICU after my transplant so it wasn't used to help pain it was used to prevent rejection of my new kidney. I wish I could do something to change all the things it has done to me. I feel sorry for those of you who say it helps you. Someday it will effect you all the way it has effected me. I also have a hump on my back, moon face, and weigh over 200 lbs. I used to be 104 when I first went on it. I was never a big eater. If you are on it, be careful because it sneaks up on you. Guest guest
Dear gemini6849, I'm happy to hear that Humira has made a noticeable difference in the way you've been feeling. Sorry that you've had so many adverse effects from the prednisone. I haven't used prednisone, so I won't be able to give you any insight based on personal experience, but I'm sure others here will try to help you out. Good luck! I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Hello, I am new here, but my doc put me on it for a 21 day period and it worked so he took me off of it and put me on something else. Because it is really bad for the body. Hugs Cheryle > from gemini6849, I have been on prednisone for approx. 7years now. It has > affected my bones, skin, and weight. Guest guest
, I'm sorry you had such problems from prednisone. For me, it's been just the opposite; it's almost a miracle drug. Now, I will tell you that my Dr. says I have a strange body! lolol I've been taking pred for 30 years. No negative side effects. I get a moon face when I first take it, then it goes away. I don't get hungry when I'm taking it - no weight gain from it. I don't get angry or irritable. My bone density screening results have been a -1 for over 10 years. I do take calcium, vitamin D, HRT, Fosamax and glucosamine chondritin. I don't have that hump on my back. The only problem I have is that I can't take it on a regular basis because I'll start bleeding internally, so I have to limit it to when I have bad flares. So I take it for about 6-7 days, starting at 40 mg. ad day, and start reducing it on the 3rd day. And I have no " withdrawal " effects when I go off. It may be that not taking it on a continual basis, but taking the calcium, Fosamax, etc. regularly, not just when I'm taking pred, is what has kept it from causing the problems that so many others have with it. And it's a good thing I can take it, because I can't take anything else in the NSAID, cox-2, DMARD categories. It's pred or nothing. As I said, I have a strange body!
