Guest guest
Marita, Hi! I know that Jen in the UK has mentioned a lot of alternative treatments, some of which I am familiar with, and some I'm not. The one she mentioned that I'm really into, and actually studying, is Ortho-Bionomy. It's a great, non-invasive, non-painful way of helping the body self-correct itself. Meaning, they will check you over, and any spots of resistance they find, they will either do a spontaneous release hold on the area, or they will do counter- movements. It depends on the practitioner, and the problem. Basically, what it does is help to move your muscles and such back to where they belong, and helps them " remember " that positioning. I go every 2 weeks to my practitioner, who is also one of my mentors. The website address for the Ortho-Bionomy Society is www.ortho- bionomy.org. Once you get to the site, you can click on practitioners, which gives an alphabetical listing by state. As for diet, I follow the HIPLOC (high protein/low carb) diet recommended by Dr. Mark Pellegrino, who is a physical medicine doctor who specializes in Fibro, and has Fibro, and has written several excellent books about it. The latest is " Up Close and Personal with Fibromyalgia " . I highly recommend his books, because he does cover traditional and non-traditional therapies. Basically, the diet is high in lean proteins, low in carbs. Veggies are okay, and fruits in moderation, because they do contain sugar, although natural. No caffeine, processed foods, artificial additives, MSG, or artificial sweeteners. All of these things can trigger a flare. There are also other components that are crucial to people with Fibro. Getting some form of exercise, even if stretching is all you can manage, and proper sleep hygiene (you need at minimum 7 hours of sleep, preferably 8-9, where you get plenty of stage 4 sleep time). I add supplements onto that. Most of my research has come up that ppl. with Fibro are deficient in magnesium. I take a magnesium/malic acid supplement every day, and it DOES work to help reduce that overall pain and cramping. I also take flax oil capsules, which contains the omega fatty acids 3, 8, and 9. Some people take fish oil instead...I used to take a fish, flax, and borage oil combo, but I couldn't stand the fishy belching! Flax has all of the essential fatty acids, without the fishiness. I take glucosamine and chondroitin, to keep my joints lubricated, and a very high quality, high energy multi-vitamin. I'm not recommending you follow my regimen, you should talk to your doctor or a naturopath. But there is a good product called Fibroplex, made by Metagenics, a highly respected company, that contains magnesium, malic acid, manganese, and certain B vitamins. This is what I take. You can find it at health food stores, and even some chiropractors...that is where I get mine, from a chiropractor who is also a naturopath. Add to that my meds, and that's how I " mostly " control my flares. If you have any more questions, about ortho-bionomy or the Fibro regimen I follow, please feel free to write me off the group. I'm more than happy to help! Jen

Your message was stuck in the spam folder on my server, that's why I didn't reply sooner. I haven't done much as far as research on Fibro goes, as I am having such a hard time with my foot. I'm resting the darn thing and I don't think it's doing a thing. Been doing quite a bit of research on that, that's about it. I will keep your mail and may contact you in the future if I have any questions. Thanks again, Marita in Montana
Guest guest
Marita, You're very welcome, and I can imagine that as much as I wrote, your server probably DID think it was spam! I have a tendency sometimes to, ahhh, be a little long-winded! LOL! I hope your research about your foot pays off, and that you are up and moving more again soon. I know when I had surgery for plantar fasciitis and a heel spur, it just about killed me to have to stay put so much, so I'm really feeling for you! I also remember that my mom had some sort of trouble with her feet (I think between her toes, but not positive!), some kind of calcium build-up that caused her nerve pain. They ended up having to destroy those nerves to end her pain. It was when I was young, so I don't remember a lot of the details! I'd be glad to help you in any way I can with info about Fibro. I have done a ton of research, and one of my close friends also has Fibro, and is the director of our local fibro support group in my town. Between the two of us, we have made guinea pigs out of ourselves many times, testing different natural treatments. Some we are still sticking with. But by far, at least for me, what I outlined to you has worked best for me. It's not perfect, but at least I'm not flaring every 2 weeks to a month anymore! Feel free to contact me any time!
