A literal translation would be " liver induced brain disease " . It can range from mild forgetfulness, to personality changes and confusion, to a coma. The immediate cause is usually high ammonia levels in the blood due to the liver's failure to process wastes from protein metabolism. Lactalose is prescribed to bring down the ammonia levels, diet (low protein - no red meat) can reduce the amount of protein that is metabolized and therefore the ammonia level. I can't give any personal testimony about this one. Tim __________________________________________________
