Guest guest
I just returned from two days away from the list and was shocked and surprised to find that a war had started. Zissy, I think you misunderstood. Susie has NEVER advocated no-carb. She is a respected member of this list and we all value her insights. She has devoted many many hours to researching diabetes and passing this information on to us. She has ALWAYS said YMMV. I think an apology is in order from you to her. There is absolutely no room for flaming on this list. Many of us consider the people in this group a family. And up until this whole sorry mess started, it was a helpful, friendly and supportive group. I hope this will never change. Guest guest
Zissy...I say this in all love...what works for some will not work for all. Our battle cry should by YMMV.....for years I ate vegetarian, no fat! I lost a ton of weight and kept in perfect control! No meds, even! Then suddenly, my bgs shot up to 13.9 and the stupid doctor let me stay there for about 4 or 5 years...kept adding one med on top of another and not helping me at all! I was miserable! Went to a new doc and she immediately put me on insulin. I felt *mahvelous, dahling!* Cleaned house, cooked for my spouse, had more energy than I had in years! BUT! Gained 35 pounds in 2 weeks! And all on a 1500 calorie ADA diet with the blessing of my Endo and CDE. Some of us just can't do it. Now to Susie KNOW IT ALL...she may not know it all, but she does know a lot on low carb from lots of research and study. And what she knows, works for her. It has done a lot for me. (In that it decreased my insulin requirements which had gotten astronomical, but did not decrease my weight even 1 gram! In fact, I have gained about 5 pounds more!) I must have two root canals tomorrow. Haven't been able to chew on either side lately. Have to have soft food. Have been eating scrambled eggs a lot. One morning this week, I decided to go back and eat oat bran for breakfast. What a disaster! My pre-lunch bgs were 279 (after a fbs of 82!) Never again! However, last night I had a very soft biscuit, softened even more in white milk gravy and some SF Jell-O (couldn't think of much else!) (That I wanted anyway) And the fbs this a.m. was 85! So which one was a fluke? I have no clue. A while back I had lunch out with my kids and the restaurant had 2 choices: Chicken fried steak or fried chicken...only other choice was for your drink. (This is a very popular restaurant in North Texas) Entree was served with home made biscuits, home made mashed potatoes, home made cream-style corn (sooo fresh...I took a couple of bites). creamy milk gravy and salad...with dressing already added....no choice..SURPRISE! I ate all of the above except only a bite of the potatoes! Next am my fbs was 87! (Still not losing weight, but with food like that!!!) There is no rhyme no reason to my results! Some days are diamonds, some days are stones! with diabetes, anyway! My friend Teri is losing weight and doing great on ADA...maybe I could do that today, but I am afraid to take a chance. My son in law lost 35 lbs on low carb....my daughter, over the same period, lost 15. Who knows what drives each of us....certainly not the medical profession. They have bombed out for years! That is why there are so many weight loss plans and WOEs. I went to WW many years ago. I gained 13 pounds! A friend of mine just lost more than 100 pounds! Another friend...a diabetic...lost more than 100 on ADA...now she is hosting a recipe list for low carb! Go figure! No one plan can be made into a god! No one plan meets all needs. I certainly have no clue. But I am going to be tolerant of all plans and hope for the best! I fought for years for the ADA...until I felt they were doing an injustice to a lot of people by forcing their pyramid on all physicians and CDEs. Now, all I can say with certainty is YMMV! *hugs* Toni Sorry Group > > > This is a problem between Susie KNOW IT ALL and me not any of the rest > of you.
