Guest guest Posted September 3, 1999 Report Share Posted September 3, 1999 Henry, I agree with Jim Easley's assessment of the situation - and his justification is important because we have to justify why we should be paid what we get paid. I think 24K for an EMT and 31K for an EMT-P are reasonable starting points. This assumes, however, a 24-48 shift schedule (52 hours/wk average) and between 4-6 responses per shift (an average number). The pay scale should adjust for variables such as changes in hours worked, numbers of responses and incentive pay for whatever you deem important. I do believe the numbers should be higher, but nurses (and teachers) should also get paid more and as nursing salaries go up, paramedic salaries should rise, too (in my perfect fantasy world).
