WHere as some cell phones ara free with a contract and service, a Blackberry is

something like $495? maybe more? I think you can go online with it.....and

lots of other things, too. I am not positive but I think they are either Nextel

or Cingular......or maybe you can use them with any service? But I know I saw

them at either Nextel or Cingular.

The articles I was reading said they are very common and almost " everyone " has

them. Hmmm, I find that hard to believe! This everyone won't have them at that

price!

I am not sure why they are called that- I think they are a deep blue color, or

like a purpley blue.....but I cannot understand why- just some gimmicky name? I

don't know- and no, I sure cannot afford one, either. No way. I think the

" everyone " is the young adults who still live at home, have jobs but live with

parents and have no major responsibilities yet?

People usually get them for business - employers buy them. My

attorney clients always bought them for the attorneys, and I imagine

they are popular with sales people. Jobs where you might be away

from your office a lot but still need to always be " connected. " They

are a cell phone but also have computer like qualities. I think

they can keep your schedule and you can do email with them, probably

more. I've never actually seen one and I have no idea about the

name.

Do you know if you have to use them as a cell phone? I have a cell phone with

Sprint and have a good business plan so it doesn't cost much. But, I need

something to keep appointments in and lots of other information, then be able to

connect it to my computer to store it there too. I don't need one for e-mail or

web browsing.

I don't think you have to, but one thing I think they are good for

his you can upload your calendar to it from your computer or vice

versa. It's the ability to email and send files that makes it so

popular.

Jennie,

You can get a PDA, or a Palm pilot, for much cheaper if you just want to use it

as on organizer. Probably $100-200.

I have Sprint, and have a Treo 600 phone with them. It's similar to the

Blackberry ones, I can hotsync it with my computer, Use it as an organizer, go

on line, read my email, keep track of my check book, etc.

It wasn't cheap either, but sometimes I'm a techno junkie.

I'm not buying anything - see my previous post about being broke.

But I agree with you. Becky - there are lots of things that are

cheaper. And I am sure you will be no less popular if you don't

have a blackberry, LOL.

Any suggestions on a Palm pilot? I of course want the best but would also like

the cheapest. I need something I could sink with my computer.

Oh, it's Becky, not Jennie who was looking.

If you have a Best Buy nearby, try looking there. Or go to bestbuy.com. They

usually have lots of options.
