June, osteopenia is a forerunner of osteoporosis. A recent bone density

test showed that I have osteopenia in my lumbar spine. So I guess you

have osteopenia in those bones. But they are comparing my 65-year-old

bones to those of a 30-year-old, lol. You are probably not 30, either.

June- Thanks for the update. Of course he's taking care of you - he loves and

you are great! Hope you can get to the source of this and it can be remedied in

the least invasive way possible. You are held in my prayers in a special way -

with as our Debs would say, with warm gentle hugs.

June,

So sorry that your spine is affected. I also have osteopenia and have been

making sure I get enough calcium and vitamin D. Weight bearing exercises

are the best thing to build bone, but for most of us that is out of the

question. Bless that wonderful husband of yours. I'm so glad you have

him! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes.

Hi June

Gout is not always food related. Sometimes people have gout attacks for

reasons no one can figure out. As a matter of fact, I have a friend whose 19

year

old son had knee surgery due to a football injury. He had a terrible case of

gout in one foot. It left everyone scratching their heads. The surgical

site became infected, and his father (now dead) used to have gout but was a

drinker. Those are the only things that the health care staff thought possibly

contributed. Weird, huh? Cary

I had my bone scan yesterday and at one point I came close to panic. I did not

know this machine was going over my face about 3 inches. It was probably only

4-mines or less but for me it was like hours. Won't get the results for a week

however my GP called with the results of my x-rays and blood test. He thinks I

am having an attack of gout and wants me to start taking alipuronol(sp). I am

sending an email to my rheumy to ask her opinion before I agree. My uric acid

was high and this is what he is basing the gout on. It has been almost 2 weeks

and although the swelling in my foot has decreased, I still can't put my weight

on it. The pain is just above my exterior ankle bone. The only thing I know

about gout is from Major Hoople in a comic strip who was overweight and walked

around with a big bandage on his foot(none of you are old enough to remember

this one).I don't eat rich foods, very little meat and weigh 98 lbs. Any ideas?

Just read a post reminding me to keep taking the antibiotics, can't remember

who, but thank you. I was going to stop, seeing as I was taking them for what he

thought might be an infection. I know better.

Thanks for listening to my complaints.

Thanks Cary, maybe I should take up drinking LOL. What I find strange, although

my foot is swollen, the pain is about 3 " above my ankle bone in the leg. No pain

in my foot.

I am craving a Margarita and I don't even like them! My husband had one last

week at Applebee's and I tasted it. It really was good but before I thought

they were awful. Might go to Margarittaville tonight (my kitchen).

Just got back from Sam's and spent a fortune. It's feast or famine around here.

My husband is grilling lots of brats and chicken. That way I don't have to cook

for most of the week. Bought nachos and cheese and hamburger for a few days

too. My stomach is growling!

June,

I also have a lot of pain I believe in the same area you are referring to.

My ankle is what is swollen, but a few inches above where the fibula bump is

on the outside of my ankle, it gets very painful and bruises, especially

after I walk. I believe it may be a tendon that is inflamed. I've looked

at anatomy pictures to see what is in that area, and there is only muscle

and tendon. Tendon inflammation is probably the culprit.

I've considered taking up drinking as well. I was in the doctor's office

today and reading an article on osteoporosis. It said that silicone is as

important as calcium in post menopausal woman. The best source? BEER!

In case you're wondering, Silicone is the nutrient needed for building bone

matrix found abundantly in the stem parts of many vegetables.

I hope you're feeling better.

a, have you tried wearing a soft air cast which is supposed to support the

ankle? I have one but it was used for my right foot. If it happens to be your

right ankle I would be happy to send this one to you. Beer? I don't think so

although years ago when ever we were in Vegas I used to drink a beer that was

only available in Vegas. This afternoon, I used my scooter to get out back and

sat in the gazebo reading a book for about 2 hours Sitting is not something I am

good at but I had Don bring me a glass of my wine(he is in shock) and I do

believe it relaxed me. I am going to check with Enliven tomorrow to see if there

is any reason I can't take Allo

purinol when I am on Enbrel. I won't be mentioning about oxycontin together with

wine <VBG>

Did you ever talk to your rheumatologist June? I'd want to be really

sure that it's gout before taking the allopurinol.

I'm very curious about this since both my brother and father have had

gout attacks.

I'll tell you where to go!
