Guest guest
Hi Miah, My name is Iris and I have recently been classified disabled. Only you can know when you have reached that point but if your docs are talking to you about it, it probably is time. It took me almost two years and there are others in our group who have had it take longer. My advice to you is advice that I am passing on from some of our wonderful members. Keep copies of your medical records and check what the docs are writing. When I got mine, I realized that a lot of things that I told the docs never reached the records. The more information that you give your docs, the better. I found that the relationship that I had fostered with my GP was a great advantage when it came time for my dr to have to report his observations. Most people here get turned down the first time and then contact a lawyer. My lawyer was well worth the money they charged (the amount is regulated by law.) Your docs are not the only ones that can testify to your condition; your spouse, friends, pastor, etc. can all write a letter of their observations on how it affects your life. I wished that I would have gone out on long-term disability from my job instead of filing for disability after I no longer worked. You didn't say what treatment your rheumy has you on. I know that none of us want to admit that we have these diseases, but the sooner that we acknowledge, the sooner we get on the right medications to stop the disease progress. You will find our members to be a wonderful group of friends and they have all been through almost any situation. Not only are they full of love and encouragement and support, but they can always provide good information and research. and a, our moderators, can locate info on almost any subject.
