Guest guest
I have been reading all of the post about what should paramedics be paid both starting out and as experienced medics. This should be based on experience, and not if they are certified or licensed. We have already had that discussion so I want go there with this. Sarting off some have said $23,000 to $25,000 per year. With five or more yrs experience I was say $25,000 to $40,000 per yr depending on the service. Most of the private services are not going to be able to pay up to $40,000 per yr like some of the larger service could. Paramedics do not make enough money for what they do. Even if you are an LP it only goes up just a little again depending on the service. When the trash man gets paid more than a paramedic, yes, then there is something wrong here. Medics should be paid what RNs are paid, because they can do the same skills, except it is on the streets and not in a hospital. Most people think that medics do make about $12-$14 per hour. Then when you tell them no, they ask why, because you are saving peoples lives everyday. I was reading the post by Allan Snell from R/M Waco on there openings, they start off medics at $6.35 an hr, and then it goes to $7.65 plus extra for BTLS, ACLS, and others for a max of $0.50 more per hr so around $8.00 per hr. I know people that work for Wal-Mart, Domino's, Pizza Hut, and other non-skilled (high school education only) that make this or more....what is wrong with this picture??? Just my thoughts on this matter...
