A waiter/waitress at a high-end white collar restaurant can make upwards of $300 on a weekend night, so can a good bartender at a busy club. It's not always about training, but about what people are willing to pay and what value they percieve the service is worth. Henry - my number figure here would be closer to $40,000 for an experienced EMT-P w/etc. certs. For a brand new, never on the street EMT-P (still with the tack-on certs), It'd be closer to $32,000 to $36,000 a year plus at least a PPO option health care package partially funded by the employer. Mike - [texasems-L] Re: paramedics? I think that when people who work at Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut, and many other places that are non-skilled jobs make more money than paramedics, something is wrong. There are many jobs that pay 12.00-20.00 per hour that require no schooling, no CE's, and practically no skill. It's wrong that we are on the bottom of the pay scale, earning not much above minimum wage. I would not put a dollar value on what i think paramedics are worth, but it is much more than we get now. There is absolutely no reason that firefighters and cops make more money for the same type job. It's easier to be a firefighter than a paramedic. That's why all the departments now want paramedics that they'll send through the fire academy. The attitude is anybody can pass the fire academy but not everybody can make it through paramedic school. We should have a pay scale that is at least comparable to that of the other emergency services.
