Guest guest
Dec 16, 2004 RIKEN Develops Artificial Lymph Node with Immune Function Tokyo (JCNN) - RIKEN has announced that the Research Unit for Immune Surveillance at the RIKEN Research Center for Allergy and Immunology has succeeded in creating an artificial lymph node, which properly functions as an immune system. By constructing an artificial immune system akin to a " real " lymph node in mice, the research group has confirmed that the artificial node has demonstrated enhanced immune responses. This discovery suggests a new methodology in immunological study; moreover, it will lead to the development of innovative devices applicable in treatments of emerging infectious diseases, immunodeficiency and tumors. Details of the research are available in the December issue of US scientific magazine Nature Biotechnology, under the title of " Generation of a synthetic lymphoid tissue-like organoid in mice.
