Guest guest
Hi Spring, Another suggestion for 's low platelets. I've just started one of my patients on Folic acid for this condition (associated with taking other drugs for arthritis) and it has increased her platelet count. In folks who drink it's probably safer to take both 5 mg of Folic acid and to take Vitamin B12 supplements as well. These can be found in lower doses in one a day vitamins. That would be a good source of Vitamin B12 but a separate pill for Folic acid (folate) would be best. Aubrey
Guest guest
Thanks Aubrey, I will talk to and see if he will take the folic acid, he is very leery of things. Perhaps telling him it comes from a Dr. and is working will help mattters. Things are going good so far, no beer and no seizures. Hope it lasts. Take care!! Guest guest
Aubrey Ty has been taking folic acid for years....but still has the playlet problem...maybe it would even be lower if he wasn't on it....He has in the past taken multi-vitamins....but they really make him sick....the exta iron....makes him feel sick for hours.....have even tried to take at different times of the day....They felt that they were not being absorbed because his labs never changed...on or off...Not sure if you remember....Ty has Crohns,RA,PSC and AIH....he tends to go back and forth with which thing will be acting up....doesn't get much of a break....Just went thru the wrist being so bad that we had to take him to ER because it was cold and numb...this was 2 months ago....had to be put in brace..to keep in better position...eventually got better....had upped his celebrex from 100mgs 2xs daily to 200mgs 2xs daily....Also got another remicade infusion so thought that we would be good for awhile...but within a week his knees started and ended up not walking.....and loosing a large range of motion....had more MRIs and they put him on pred...40mgs for 2 wks....we are at about 90% now.....And the last 2 weeks its been the belly...nauseau...poor eating....labs not so great....his albumin was 2.3 but is up to 3.2...hem was 9 they are thinking of giving him another iron infusion.....gets labs done next week....his liver labs had been so good for months....although he still itches alot at times.....now ALT and AST are up to 100 and GGT up to 300...they had at the beginning been 500's and over 1000...but I didn't like to see them go up again....Hoping they will all look better next week....The docs are trying to decide if the Remicade infusions are really helping or not....he gets them once a month...which is more often than most....If he comes off of that not sure where they will go next.... Sorry this has gone on so long....My main question was do you know of any vitamins that might be better absorbed...easier....he was on the Centrum.... He will drink ensure occasionally.... I appreciate all the help you give us.... Thanks... Luanne Ty's mom
