Since an old post of mine has been resurrected and pasted to the gentleman's

post, I feel I should comment.

Much has taken place between the time of that post and now. I have had some

interesting talks with Jim Arnold about that post and I can tell you that the

people at TDH are not the callous, mindless, non-caring folks that it

sometimes seems.

The problem with our profession and substance abuse is once again one of the

major problems existing in our profession: The lack of any meaningful

professional organization.

The programs cited which help nurses, doctors, lawyers, and others are ALL

provided by their profession's professional organization. We have no

organization and no program for TDH to fall back on.

Isn't it time we all gave some serious thought to joining a professional

organization and making it stand for something? Are we all so poor we can't

cough up $50 or less per year in order to have a strong organization? With

more than 40,000 certified and licensed personnel in Texas, $50 a year would

buy a $2,000,000 budget. That budget could be used to buy the kind of help

programs we need plus many, many other vital services. (By the way, I pay

$365 a year to the Bar Association.)

EMSAT just got going, and I joined because I'd rather be in their tent

looking out than outside looking in. I also will re-join TAEMSE if it ever

gets going again. Which ever organization you choose, choose one and join.

Then, if there are two strong organizations the way is paved for them to get

together and make ONE strong organization.

Right now we have NO strong organization.

Think about it!
