Guest guest
DEAR JENNIE G, THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING MY POST. I COULD TELL YOU WERE REALLY HEALTY BY THE WAY YOU WROTE. I HAD BEEN ONE OF THOSE WOMEN WHO PHEN- PHENED AND LOST 35 LBS. I WAS ANOREXIC AND LOST OVER 50 AND THEN WHEN I REALIZED THAT WAS BAD, SLOWLY ADDED ABOUT 10 LBS A YEAR. MY RA MEDS REALLY DID A NUMBER ON ME. I DID NOT EAT ANYMORE THAN USUAL, I ACTUALLY HAD NO APPETITE AND MY LOVEY WAS ALWAYS AFTER TO REMEMBER TO EAT. AND I WAS TRYING FRUITS AND LOTS OF RAW VEGETABLE SALADS THAT I COULD NEVER EAT BEFORE I STARTED ON NEURONTIN BECAUSE OF IBS ON TOP OF EVERYTHING. I LIVE ON COFFEE ALONE. DAY AND NIGHT IT'S ONE POT AFTER ANOTER. SOMETIMES IN THE AFTERNOON IF IT'S HOT OUT, I WILL SWITCH TO BREWED ICED TEA. WITH THE MEDS, THE WEIGHT PILED ON.....I DON'T HAVE ANY METABOLISM. THAT IS WHY IS SEE THAT I HAVE TO EXERCISE, BUT I AM SO DISABLED THAT MOST OF MY DAY IS SPENT IN A WHEELCHAIR. I CAN WALK - IT JUST HURTS TOO BAD. I CAN GET FROM ROOM TO ROOM. AND 15 YEARS AGO I WAS INTO POUNDING AEROBICS 2-3 HOURS A DAY....I KNOW HOW TO DO IT. I JUST DON'T DO IT.MY HEALTHY DIET LASTED GREAT FOR WEEKS AND THEN I JUST DID NOT CARE TO MAKE THE CUT UP ALL THE SALAD STUFF EFFORT AND I LIVE OUT OF TOWN, AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TODRIVE IN OVER A YEAR, SO GETTING FRESH STUFF FROM THE STORE MEANS BOTHERING SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR ME. I GUESS, I MUST TAKE THE PLUNGE AND START. HOW MANY CALORIES A DAY DO YOU THINK YOU EAT ? TO MAINTAIN YOUR WEIGHT. YOU REALIZE , YOU ARE THE KIND OF WOMAN - WOMEN LOVE TO HATE? OH, TO HAVE TO WORK TO KEEP WEIGHT ON, TO BE SO LUCKY ! THNAKS, CINDI
Guest guest
Cindi, I know, I can't really complain about involuntary weight loss, can I? Although when it was at it's worst, before I started exercising, I did look very sickly. The thing I struggled with when it first started was when someone would compliment me on the weight loss and I just wanted to tell them that for me it came with a price and that price was having RA. I'd usually bite my tongue because it would happen at work or it'd be a client and I couldn't (shouldn't) just go into my personal medical history with them. I just feel like having RA should afford me the right to complain about having RA. Unless you have it, you don't know what it is like to have to struggle so hard to get out of bed or to tell your 4 year old you just can't go to the park. When I tell Abbey I'm too tired or I don't feel well enough, she says, " because of your arth-whitis " and she's so cute when she says it but it makes me want to cry. So sometimes I over do it for her because I can't always tell her no. Today was one of those days. Ok, going off topic there.... I have no idea how many calories I eat in a day. Usually I eat oatmeal for breakfast, sometimes I throw in a bagel at 10:30am... then lunch is either a big salad (with pepperoni, gotta make it interesting) or a small salad and egg or tuna salad on crackers... dinner is whatever Abbey eats, so usually pizza, chicken nuggets, corn dogs, mac n cheese, pasta, yogurt, etc... my next goal is to actually get her on a healthier diet... and when she's with her dad dinner by myself could be toast, cereal, pasta, mac n cheese, corn dog (hmmm, sounds familiar)... I suppose I should count calories but I think I have a mental block about doing that. Now I'm rambling... very tired tonight. I know that it is so hard for you to get back into the routine of eating healthier and that exercising is more of a challenge (or a large brick wall) given your medical situation. Hopefully there will be a day soon where you can picture yourself getting everything more under your control and the way you want it and need it to be. For now, just take it one day at a time.
