Guest guest
Peg A-- Your msg was directed to , but I thought you may want more than one response. I have had PSC confirmed for 12 years, but peri-cholangitis and elevated liver enzymes for 19 years. The symptoms did not really appear until later. During the majority of that time the focus was on my UC. PSC was followed for progression, which it has, but there was no pain involved until I believe about 2 yrs ago. Up until then I had several cholangitis attacks, severe itching, hospitalization & liver duct surgery in 1989. About18 months ago my ERCP showed enlgd liver, enlgd spleen, portal hypertension, duodenal erosions, and other things I can't begin to remember now. W/the enlgd liver was the pain, but there are no symptoms associated w/portal hypertension. Had problems w/the erosions & enlgd spleen. Of course the blood work always shows elevated enzymes & other things out of whack--i.e., low red blood cells, low white blood cells, low platelets, high iron one time, low iron another. It goes on and on. Like someone else said, it is amazing what all this disease affects. Just when I think I'm familiar with what can happen, something else comes up which is " normal for people with PSC. " Hope this answers some questions. Take care.
