This is a subject I am all too familiar with.In 1987 I woke up my jaw

waas locked,it had done this prior but was always able to undo it.This

time I went to a " so called TMJ Specilist " I knew the way it felt was

in the bone not the muscle. He disagreed.and Got my jaw loosened.Made a

bite splint.Which made matters worse the pain unbearable .Then stuck

again,He ripped my jaw in 4 places.Surgery incured to sew it up and

put the cartildge disk back, with was sewn back to keep it in

place.Well it seemed fine .Then 2 years later the pain was back..so

severve. No one would believe my pain was that bad finally in 97 I

believe I had arthroscopic surgery on both sides.Pain just

increased.Dr again (a diff one) wounlkd not believe I was in

tremendouos pain.I finaly wwent to the big guy at the University of

Michigan.Dr.Upton.after spending 2 hours with me.He told me what I

already knew..,my jaw was a mess.He could fix it mechanically however

it would not be worth all the pain, for it would not help the pain.I

was suffering in addition to this TRIGEMINAL NEURITIS.A big nerve

,runs right next to your TMJ and connects with the 5th cervical

vertabrae. If you feel like yoou have been hit in the face and head

with a baseball bat.and nothing helps but heavy duty narcotics, you may

have this.He sent me to a pain clinic.Thank God.I would surely be dead

by now if not for this DR. The pain is so intense. They say it is

amongst the most painful conditiions you can have. Now that I have RA i

often wonder if that played a part in my joint deteriorating in the

1st place.btw..I have been on a liquid diet since seeing Dr,Upton. So

as not to further damage the joint. Then He would HAVE to do surgery. At

1st it was very hard to get used to..Now No prob, and with Great Pain

meds.I am free..from that anyway......Nea ....Feel free to write me

anytime for those that suffer with this. A BIG GENTLE HUG FOR YOU
