Also, a bit of information for everyone...if you are hospitalized and don't feel you are well enough to go home when the HMO wants to boot you out, you can tell the doctors that you feel it will be an " unsafe discharge " . That's a heads up that there will be legal consequences if the doctors don't show that you ARE ready to go. We had to do that with my mother-in-law several times--they sent, or tried to send , her home after major abdominal surgeries before she had even taken solid food. Totally insane! At the very least, there will be a thorough study of your case to make sure you are ready to go home and it will buy you an extra bit of time to get better.
