So far the hospital has absorbed most of those costs. I've got to talk to

them this week about future payments. Medicare does cover most of the bill,

and the amount I may be responsible for is small as well.

Lots of doctors/hospitals will charge a 20% co-pay based on the total retail

price. When that happens, I offer 20% of the APPROVED Medicare cost. Usually

they accept it, muttering under their breath. A procedure may be billed to

me as $1500, and they expect me to pay 20% of it. When I receive the

statement from Medicare, the price is usually about 10%, and that's what I

pay on.
