Guest guest
HI MARY BETH, MY NAME IS CINDI, YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE, EVERYONE HERE IS GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING AS YOU AND CAN HELP YOU EVERY PHASE OF THE WAY. I WAS DIAGNOSED OVER A YEAR AGO AND TOLD BY MY DOCTOR THAT I WOULD NEVER WORK AGAIN. LIKE YOU I WAS DOING EVERTHING, I HAD AN OUTDOOR - NO CHIC KIND OF JOB, AND THEN NO SECOND INCOME. THAT ONE YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK ON QUICK - FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU CAN CUT AND GET GOING FAST. WE GOT SO FAR IN DEBT BORROWING AND BORROWING TO STAY AFLOAT UNTIL MY DISABILITY CAME THROUGH. I AM 44 SO MY DISABILITY IS NOT THAT MUCH. PLEASE GET ON THIS RIGHT AWAY, JUST BECAUSE YOUR DOCTOR SAYS YOU ARE DISABLED, DOES NOT MEAN YOUR DISABILITY WILL EVEN COME THROUGH ON THE FIRST TIME YOU APPLY. AND YOU ARE NOT PAID YOU SSI FOR 5 MONTHS FROM THE DATE YOU APPLIED AND WERE APPROVED. REALLY WATCH YOUR MONEY HABITS. AS FOR THE PROCESS, I FOUND IT VERY HARD TO EXCEPT BEING DISABLED, ALOT, BECAUSE I WAS SO MOBILE, AND SO BUSY. NOW I AM HAPPY WHEN I CAN MOVE AROUND THE HOUSE UNAIDED. YOU WILL FEEL DIFFERENTLY THAN ME MAYBE, EACH OF US IS DIFFERENT, THAT IS WHY THIS GROUP IS SO IMPORTANT, WE CAN HELP YOU WITH ALL THE ASPECTS OF RA. I DON'T HAVE ALOT OF TIME RIGHT NOW, I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT FILING FOR DISABILITY. DO NOT GIVE UP IF YOU ARE DENIED, OVER HALF OF ALL PEOPLE ARE DENIED THEIR FIRST TIME. I JUST WANTED TO CLUE YOU IN ON THE FINANCES THING, I WON'T OR MY HUSBAND LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO PAY OFF ALL THE DEBT WE INCURRED WHEN I LOST THE ABILITY TO WORK. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, DON'T LET THIS GET YOU DOWN. POST OFTEN AND EVERYONE WILL ADD THEIR ADVISE TOO. CINDI HEIN
Guest guest
Cindi, Thanks for your response. I have already applied to SSI Disability and Supplemental Income. I, of course, am hoping that I do not need to use it. However, I am trying to be prepared. TOday, I feel good. Although, I still cannot bend down or reach up with my arms. I have also been having a lot of difficulty with my neck. This is the worst because it causes difficulty with holding my head up. But, then again, my head was never screwed on very straight anyway. Perhaps, this is just a dramatic realignment. If the result is having my head screwed on straight, I'll be happy for the discomfort. I guess everyone is different; but like you, I have having difficulty with the fact that this is a lifelong process. I have always envisioned myself running a marathon at 75years of age. I figured it would be the only way my lack of speed would get my the the finish line first in my age group! I have a lot of support from family and friends who all want to help me by taking me in to their home since I am alone. But, I am struggling to hang onto my independence. Financially, without any means of support, I don't know how long I will be able to hold out. Independence is great but without being independently wealthy, I may be in a pickle! It's great to be able to talk to someone who is/has gone through the same thing. Thanks for your response, Beth CINDI <heinscsf@...> wrote: HI MARY BETH, MY NAME IS CINDI, YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE, EVERYONE HERE IS GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING AS YOU AND CAN HELP YOU EVERY PHASE OF THE WAY.
