Guest guest
I think you should calculate yourself. THere is national data from MGMA etc, but I don't know of any for us. I tried to collect this data and create a report for us acouple years ago, but no one wanted to give me their data. Ours, for total cost/patient is about $50 per visit. Guest guest
oops Thanks Jim for making me realize I asked the wrong question I am looking for data from a payor about their panels pharmacy/ER/hospital use cost to payor Cost per patietn per month or yr throughout the system Good primay care costs less( Iknow I know measuirng one small panel doesn;t count etcetc but stil wondering) I have some data from medicaid This stuff is hard to get I thought some folks might if in an IPA or soemthing know if their panels costs more or less than average. that sort of thing. We all have sort of proxy cost data if using HowsYourHealth and seeing if people stay out of ERs but actual cost data would be good to have Brady and I are talking at the IHI office practice summit in Dc in March about small practice work.... so....just thinkin'Jean I think you should calculate yourself. Guest guest
and I have some data from BCBS of Illinois. They aggregated the data into something they call a MEG. Data is questionable, because they are allowed to aggregate any and all data more than once and from different providers. Example I see patient all year for small amount, but cardiologist changes pacemaker. The result is all the CHF from afib costs are attributed to me because I have more frequent and numerous visits for AFIb. If i simply changes my code to warts, the cost would flow to the cardiologist's report because i never saw the patient for CHF related AFIB. PS I can share more specific numbers with you if you need. PSS BCBS happy to spend $70,000/year on our patient's outp[atient labs with local hospital, because they collect managment fee on the chasrges. I tried to negotiate a clia waived chemistry analyzer for $14,000 as a one time expense. They would have saved $20,000/year. They declined. I would only make $3/test at $13 reimbursement. It would take me 4000 test to break even. We only do 2-400 CMP or BMP tests per year. Follow the money. BCBS has it and they always keep it. Each year the patients pay a higher percentage our office care. I think you should calculate yourself. THere is national data from MGMA etc, but I don't know of any for us. Guest guest
Thanks right that may make it messy data .Hmm. BUt do you have anything that compares you to non imps in your area Anything that you think MIGHT suport your approach to care? Egly I would like to thank you I never see you and barely know you but you are responsible for two good things 1 your dollar a day idea has me getting capitated on that basis from a payer here.2 Telling me about the CKD study ( I believe you nagged me) will keep me financially solvent for another month MY practice is dead right now; and CKD will get me $5400.00. I go through this dead stuff periodically but it stresses the heck out of me Ther e is alot of Primary care here and low payors I am glad to know you This work is hard I am always struggling I did however have the best financial yr 2011 that I have had as an IMP,taking home 14,800 more than 2010 Doesn;t look good for 2012 though thank youJean and I have some data from BCBS of Illinois.
