Leflunomide (Arava)

Arava is a newer DMARD, approved in 1998. The long term safety data is not

known. There has been a lot of controversy over the safety of Arava. It

has a long half life of 2 weeks and can remain in tissue for 2 years. In

spite of the possibility of serious side effects, many patients have seen

improvement while taking Arava and have had no side effects. It is

comparable to methotrexate.
