a,

I've done this before. I learned that I should not be eating

grapefruit with two of my medications. I never would have known that

otherwise.

I do also make sure my rheumy knows all of the meds I am on (most he

has prescribed, but I rely on him more than on the drug.com checker).

And when this topic of drug interaction software comes up, I like to

remind the group that the drugs are only compared two at a time. If you

are taking three or more drugs and have run them through the checker, it

still may not be a safe combination.

That is: If drug A and drug B is a safe combination, and drug B and drug

C is a safe combination, and drug A and drug C are safe together, that

DOES NOT necessarily mean A + B + C is safe.

Take as few OTC and prescription drugs and supplements as possible and

make sure your physician is aware of them all.

I'll tell you where to go!

Jennie,

You're wise to rely on your doctor. It is so important that doctors know

everything we are taking. I'm glad that sites like this exist for us to

double check since not all doctors would pick up on some interactions. My

dad is on cholesterol medicine and until I sent him an article on grapefruit

and cholesterol medication, he wasn't aware of the problem.
