Guest guest
Thanks Terri,....I tried the Celebrex and Vioxx a long while ago, couldn't take those. I skipped the Motrin last night, and still trying to get the nerve to take it this morning. After yesterday with all the stomach problems, I don't won't to repeat, but I know I will. Guest guest
Tawny, Motrin (ibuprofen), Bextra (valdecoxib) and Mobic (meloxicam) are NSAIDs (nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs). Ibuprofen is a nonselective NSAID (inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2), Bextra is a selective NSAID (a COX-2 inhibitor - blocks COX-2 and doesn't substantially affect COX-1), and Mobic is somewhere in-between (inhibits COX-2 and COX-1 but goes after primarily COX-2). At comparable dosages, Mobic and Bextra are NOT more effective than Motrin, but they should be kinder to your stomach since COX-1 protects your gut. Mobic and Bextra are also much more expensive than Motrin. I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Tawny, I take bextra and it is expensive if you don't have ins. With my co-pay it is $50 a month and they won't let me get more than one month at a time. If your rheumy puts you on it ask for samples. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Guest guest
Thanks , I was afraid they would be more expensive then the Motrin. But, if they will be easier on the old tummy, it will be worth it. I haven't taken any Motrin today, have been sick all day. I contacted the rheumy, but probably won't hear back until tomorrow. thanks Tawny > Tawny, Motrin (ibuprofen), Bextra (valdecoxib) and Mobic (meloxicam) are > NSAIDs (nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs). Guest guest
Beth,....We do have insurance, but I can't use it to go to my rheumy. I have to wait 6 months on a pre-existing condition. I'm not sure on the meds, I will have to find out. I will ask for samples, because I have bought so many meds, and then can't take them. Guest guest
I would have to disagree.. When I was on the Ibuprofen it was like I was on nothing at all. There is a huge difference in Bextra and Ibuprofen and how it affects your body, (at least it is in mine). Semalee [ ] Just checkin' in, > Hey friends,....Well the Motrin, is bothering my stomach.
