Guest guest
I just wanted to chime in here. My husband had this surgery from the back last year and later in the year he had the surgery from the front. He is still having problems but is improving. he first surgery worked but when he came up from the operation and was wheeled into a room he said his other side was killing him and it was worse pain that the other was before surgery. They told us it was probably the way they had him laid during the operation. It continued to get worse. He went to another doctor and they told him they would need to go through the front. He had this done and still is dealing with pain. He now sees a physical therapist who was trained for this type of surgery. She has done more for him and his pain than any of the med's. He is presently taking Lyrcia and is weaning off of Loratabs, which he has been on for 13 months. Yesterday the PM doc told him to increase the Lyrcia and one more week on the loratabs. He is improving but it has been since October surgery that he has had major problems. The pain radiates from his neck into his arm and specifically into his hand. He is finally able to grasp a pencil and not be in pain. He has had many days of pain that owuld not let up. I advise you to make sure your surgeon knows what he is doing. Check his record very carefully. We wish we had gone with the first guy but at the time we did not. The first surgeon wanted to go again through the front and we thought that is the surgery that caused all the problems so go through the back. Now his neck area has a pretty good size of skin that looks like it is sucked in from behind and his front looks like someone tried to cut his head off. We are just thrilled that he is finally getting better. He has continued to work and do okay but the pain never leaves. It is because of the discussions on this group that we knew to request trying Lyrcia. When the doc mentioned it we knew all about it from reading on here. I hope this helps a little.
