Tweak the ADA diet (which I had stopped using back in November to start lowcarb) and substitute veggies in a higher quantity if I choose not to eat 1/2 cup potatoes, 1/3 c rice, etc. Example: 1 1/2 cups green beans = 1/2 cup potatoes. By using the carb counting I only have to think about carbs, fat and protein rather than all the exchange info that used to make up the ADA exchange plan. >> What many of us find is that we can manage by just making those subtle adjustments in our eating ... eat the veggies fresh rather than overcooked; select the monounsaturated fats, such as munching on freshly-ground flaxseed or eating olives instead of french fries and chips; keeping salad fixings on hand; and checking the carb count on the nutrition labels. That way we can maintain good diabetes control without having to starve to death. As you note, it is an uncomplicated approach. << Yes [the endo] did say that the sulfs are hard on the pancreas when I asked him about the beta cells, etc. He is not a dr that just prescribes and leaves you on your own. He calls to check on you and has you fax your bg's to the office on a weekly basis and if there are problems I am able to talk to him directly. >> I am relieved when diabetics find good doctors. We will cheer along with you as you are able to improve control. Susie
