Wow. That gives new meaning to " walk a mile in my shoes "

> Hi Everybody-

> There are so many new people now, you all probably forgot me!

I've been out of commission with a new job and a new house with my

new " domestic partner " , Jeffy and my son, Jay. We also now have a

blended family with each of us having a dog move in with us, and of

course my 8 birds. Pretty wacky! Anyways, this really isn't off

topic. As many of you know, I'm a nurse who was working in a

hospital until about 5 weeks ago when I started a new job at an

outpatient orthopedic clinic with 11 orthopods. Most of the docs

also have PAs working with them. I was talking to one of the best

PAs there, a really great guy and very competent, about RA. He said

when he was in PA school when they had some people with RA come and

talk to them about daily life with RA. They had the students walk

around with hard chickpeas (garbanzo beans) in their shoes and many

other things. I know someone on this list goes and talks to med

students about this, too. I just wanted to share what a great thing

it is to do, as it made such an impression on this guy and his

classmates and gave them a much better understanding and compassion

for RA sufferers. Hope everyone has a great day! Cary

Hi Cary. I'm glad life is getting back to normal somewhat and you're

getting settled in your new home and job. I LOVE the chickpeas in the

shoes. I've always said, if you want to know how I feel, fill your shoes

with rocks and walk around for awhile.

Well, June-

I kinda thought it was you that taught the med students, but I didn't want to

embarrass myself just in case!! Anyways, at least you know what a lasting

impression folks like you are making on at least of few of these students.

Thanks for representing us! Cary

Of course we haven't forgotten you, Cary! I hope you and your zoo are

feeling comfortable and happy in your new home.

That's a great story about the garbanzo beans!

I'll tell you where to go!
