post I've written regarding the

dangers of Tylenol or if someone else brought the subject up. But I feel the

need to put my 2cents in. Actually, it'll probably be more like a

buck-fifty.

After suffering total liver failure and being told I needed a transplant

PRONTO the only culprit my docs (University of North Carolina) could find

was Tylenol. None of my RA meds contained Tylenol...not even pain meds.

However, I did have dental surgery 3 weeks prior to my " meltdown " . I was

prescribed Tylenol 3 and took it exactly as prescribed for only 1 week. For

some unknown reason, it built up in my liver and darn near killed me. Then

as an added bonus my kidneys failed.

I asked my doctors how that could have happened since my understanding was

the same as yours. They told me it does not necessarily take long-term or

overdose of Tylenol or Motrin to cause severe liver damage in some people.

Unfortunately, there's really no way of telling who is at high risk.

None of the nurses or doctors on the ward said they would even have Tylenol

in their homes (don't know what they did for their children) because they

had seen so many problems and a lot of deaths attributed to it.

I'm certainly not telling anyone to throw the stuff out because it works

great for most people. But it is the number one cause of toxic liver disease

in the U.S. Don't remember where I read that but can find it again if anyone

wants the article. (Just email me). I would suggest for people who use it on

a regular basis to request occasional liver panel workups. It's no big deal

and could possibly save a life. I actually had my checked 1 week before

taking the Tylenol and everything was normal

I'm not trying to scare anyone to death but once the liver is severely

damaged it's a big problem. I am very fortunate to be alive.
