Guest guest
This time of year, I get this really bad just from allergies. My throat feels constricted all the time, it's harder for me to swallow food, and I get daily heartburn from all the, mmm, I think the PC term would be " post nasal drip. " I live in the Dallas area, and it has been murder this year. Another thing to consider...I also have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which can cause nodules on your thyroid gland. Mine tend to come and go, and anytime my thyroid gets inflammed and swollen, it is harder to swallow and usually makes my throat sore. It also makes me get choked a lot, like when I'm trying to go to sleep at night. So you might want to have your thyroid gland checked out. --- In , " bandit5125 " <bandit5125@y...> wrote: > Has anyone ever had a tough time swallowing and when you do it feels > like whatever you swallowed is still there stuck in your throat? > This has been bothering me for the last week, and I am getting more > heartburn lately. Guest guest
Wow!!!! I have the same thyroid condition and I am having the problem with the post nasal drip thing now. I am constantly feeling like there is something in my throat! I can't believe how you hit the symtoms exact! -I will call my rheumy then and tak to him cause he deals with pretty much everything I have, even gp stuff. Can you do anything to make it better? or do you just live with it?Oh and I do have allergies this year, never had them before. Oh thank you so much! Guest guest
LouAnn,....I don't know what that could be, have never really had that problem. Now with the fluid on my lungs, sometimes it's hard for me to clear my throat, and have trouble with my voice, when I try to talk. Been having more coughing, especially at night. I do get heartburn, but it's the Motrin. I would contact the doctor. Have you checked side effects of the meds that your on? Sometimes, it could be your meds, and don't realize it. I'm not sure which doc, they both should know how your feeling, it doesn't really sound like a RA thing, but that's just my mouth running:) I would contact both doctors, and go from there, take care my friend, prayers your way, Tawny --- In , " bandit5125 " <bandit5125@y...> wrote: > Has anyone ever had a tough time swallowing and when you do it feels > like whatever you swallowed is still there stuck in your throat? > This has been bothering me for the last week, and I am getting more > heartburn lately. Guest guest
LouAnn, I had an appt with my rheumatologist this morning, and I got him to check my thyroid gland. He said it didn't seem swollen, so I guess my problem is all allergies this time. I usually just treat the symptoms with allergy meds and antacids (doesn't go away but helps a little, I guess) and wait until a freeze -- at least three months away in my case. This is the worst I've ever had it, though, so I may talk to my primary doctor about it when I go in next month. Supposedly, allergies are worse in my area than they've been in a long time because we had more rain than usual this summer. Also, I just weaned myself off prednisone about a month ago...as happy as I was to get off it, I think it did help my allergies somewhat. If you find out anything from your doctor, please let me know. If nothing else, it's really annoying. I have to make a conscience effort to chew more slowly so I won't feel like I'm choking to death. > > > Has anyone ever had a tough time swallowing and when you do it > > feels > > > like whatever you swallowed is still there stuck in your throat? > > > This has been bothering me for the last week, and I am getting > more > > > heartburn lately. Guest guest
Hey everyone, thanks so much for your support during this. I think now it has to be allergies causing the throat problems, or reflux. I have been taking tylenol sinus allergy now for a few days and am having a much easier time of it. I am assuming that if it was nodules it wouldn't go away with tylenol. I haven't made the appt. yet with my rheumy, have to work all week, and was hoping to make it for a day off, but I am going to make one very soon and talk to him about it and get some xrays and stuff done. I don't mind telling you some of the stuff found scared the hell outta me so I know to take these things seriously. Again, thanks to all who helped me through this awful time! your kindness and support meant so much! Just throwing it out there. > Cary
