Guest guest
IMPs, , my youngest had a high fever and abdominal pain two weeks ago. He was pretty sick, so we took him to our local ER. Bill was $7800 for 4.5 hours in ER. No radiology bill or physicians bills yet. I have been providing call coverage for this hospital for 8 years 24 hours per day 4 days per month for free. Recently, they employed a hospitalist actually 3 to provide 24/7 admitting coverage, but I am still covering for free. Has anyone successfully billed a hospital for covered call? Over the last 8 years and I have provided one full year of hospitalist services, the exact service the 3 hospitalist have provided this year. I am sure they are paid at least $1000/day. and I will pay the bill because he could easily have had appendicitis, but we are not sure we will continue to provide free call coverage. We are thinking $10/hour on call or about $1000/month for 4 DAYS OF COVERAGE.
Guest guest
Fascinating thought. I say go for it. I no longer admit, so I had not thought about this component of the hospitalist movement. It makes total sense for you to get paid the “fair and reasonable” rate that the hospital is paying the hospitalists. Of course, it makes total cents for them to not want to pay you anything. J Good luck and let us know how the negotiations go! From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of EglySent: Sunday, February 05, 2012 3:33 AMTo: Subject: Re: Question? About ER cost and call coverage. Guest guest
Think it makes sense if YOU don't bill for your services. What does the itemized bill for your child's service account for, if you don't mind posting, and curious what the ER accepts by the insurance. For Ex, my wife had a vitamin D level, charge was over $200, ins accepted about $30.... Matt in Western PA Re: Question? About ER cost and call coverage. Guest guest
Medical school- 3rd yr- day 2. " Shit rolls down hill. " I know a local group that the docs get paid $1000/day for call coverage. But they are neurosurgeons, and it is for trauma call only. And that was about 5 years ago. Nice gig, if you can get it! Regular, old " ER backup " used to be part of the deal for Steve (when we lived in OR). All of the primary care docs were on rotation for it, part of having privileges at the hospital, unless you elected to use the hospitalists, which Steve's group didn't. That is one of the single-most reasons why we moved from there. You can't get it, if you don't at least ask. Worst they can do is say no. Best you can do is say no back!
