Guest guest
, I certainly do wish you luck! All of us here will be wishing you well. As if you didn't have enough to deal with, but then those fleas had to pop up. Why don't you ask one of those healthy young males to mow the lawn and spray it, too? I'm glad I no longer have papers to write OR papers to grade. Guest guest
, I don't know how you've kept up like you do--so don't be too hard on yourself. You have done things that healthy people would crumble doing, let alone tangle with RA as well. And fleas? Yikes! My daughter's cat had a bad case of them last month, so they were biting her 4 small kids (a 4-year old and 3 18-month olds.) Well, she got the stuff from the vet, and no more fleas on the cat, plus started putting garlic in the cat's food along with their own food--she even started giving it to their 2 outdoor dogs with the result there are no more fleas, even in the house! I hope those bums who reside with you shape up soon. I'll keep you in my prayers! Guest guest
Frontline is the best product you can buy for fleas. I would apply frontline on your dogs before treating your yard. You can get it at your vet. Good Luck, Cristen [ ] I need to vent!! - OT I am having a really hard time dealingwith life right about now. My RA has been holding its own, but I'm not sure how longthat is going to last. I am currently finishing my last academic semester in PT school (I've already survived 2 years). Since this isthe last semester before we go out to clinic, we have a bunch of really big group projects that we are working on all while also studying for a HUGE comprehensie exam, which is basically a final of the last 2 1/2 years. All of my classmates (who are 10 years younger and healthy) are feeling as if they don't have time to breath and feel as if there is no time to get all ofthis done. I, who need a minimum of 8 hours ofsleep and require 10+ at least once a week, am feeling overwhelmed also. If that weren't bad enough (and believe me, it is) my dogs have had FLEAS!! In a week, my dogs have received 3 baths, the house has been treated 3 times, I have THOROUGHLY (5+ hours in on! e day - each time) cleaned the house 2 times, probably about 15 loads of laundry, and a back yard that desperately needs to be mowed before i can treat that forfleas, but neither ofmy 2 healthy young male roomates have offered to do that either. And this week in school, a test, 2 papers and a big presentation infront of all staff and faculty and classmates (with 4 other people that aren't pulling their weight despite many efforts to get them to do more). Thanks for listening! I really needed to blow off some steam. (I've been on the verge of tears for a week straight and needed to get some things off my chestso I might be able to concentrate on what I have to do tonight.) It looks like its gonna be a rough week with nowhere enough sleep and not a darn thing I can do about it. I hope everyone else is having a good day and has a good week. Wish me luck - I'm gonna need it to get through this with my health still intact!! McK in VA
Guest guest
, My cat and dog had fleas really bad and went to the pet store and asked there. The sales person said this year is one of the worst so far and only the vet strength flea treatment works. Some how the fleas have become immune to the other treatments, including baths with Dawn dish detergent which I tried first. Frontline and Advantage are the 2 brands they said contained a certain chemical which works. They are quite expensive (approx. $40 ea. for 3 treatments). I got the treatment at Concord Pets in Delaware(I don't know how they are allowed to sell it but I didn't ask), but most vets should carry it. So far so good, both animals look to be free of fleas since last week. This is with out doing an extensive house cleaning or yard treatment. Hope this helps. --- In , " McKinnon L " <nmckinno@s...> wrote: > > I am having a really hard time dealingwith life right about now. Guest guest
As some of you already know, it's hard to get rid of fleas once they get into the house. One weapon I use is a pie pan and a desk lamp. I put the pan behind a chair or other dark place and fill it with water and a few drops of dish soap. The soap decreases surface tension and the fleas cannot stay on top, so they sink and drown. The light and warmth attracts them so they jump right in. By counting bodies each morning, you can tell what success you're having. spray and carpet dust work very well to further contain the pests. Guest guest
, My thoughts are with you in your studies. My SIL went through the PT school and graduated just 2 years ago. She went to the one in Amarillo Texas. She was 46 when she graduated so you can do it too. As for the fleas, I had that problem about 3 years ago and have since used Frontline on my dogs...it has tick stuff in it and it killed all the ticks and fleas in our yard. It amazed me. I used to use Advantage on them but found that I had to start using it twice a month and for the cost I didn't want to do that. Frontline is also bought at the vet and works great. I have cats also - I think most know that and I use advantage on them and it works quite well. The last time I went by the vets though she had me buy Revolution. The cats I had just had neutered had ear mites and Revolution not only helps with fleas but ear mites and some forms of worms that cats are prone to. I recommend buying one of those and doing it soon. I fought fleas at my Mother's house last year and she didn't want to buy Advantage - wanted to use all the other methods and none of them worked. We tried everything too - baths after baths...sprayed stuff all over her kennel room floor - I sprayed stuff under tables - in the vents... In the end the fleas were still there and the dogs were still bothered by them. For the money she spent on all the other things - she could have bought Frontline for dogs and saved money. Her dogs supposedly had been doused with Advantage but it didn't work so that is why I now recommend Frontline. I wish you luck and will be praying for your success in both getting rid of the fleas and graduating from PT school...both are tough jobs. God bless, Althea
Guest guest
This has been a terrible year for fleas. My sisters basement became infested. They bombed the house 3 times and flea dipped the dogs and both cats. Turns out that cats are more prone to them than dogs (fleas like them better). The dogs were ok. The rest of the house was fine too. They seemed to stay in the basement. Finally, she called Orkin. It took several treatments to get rid of them. They also suggested vacuuming the carpet before any treatment. It makes them mad and brings them more to the surface. Then about an hour after the treatment, vacuum again. Be sure to toss the bags out!! Also, any dog or cat bedding and litter boxes should be thrown away. Washing them alone will not be sufficant. The reason it takes several treatments is because they live in different stages. Most products are only good for adult fleas. They are a household terror!! It doesn't help when you got other things going on too!! That just makes them the icing on the cake!! The soapy water is what we did to find them!! It works great!! Good luck!!..Marina in Ohio
