Thanks for the tip.Sharon Hey for those of you still doing peds- I just used the free iHandysoft carpenter's level on my iphone as a scoliometer I measured it against the real scoliometer ( for ? $30-$60 I am guessing now, bought it years ago) and they measure the same but it is much easier to use the ilevel AND so much cooler ! Wow! free, cheap, easier! :-) Lynn
Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Thanks for the tip! So how do you use it? Do you take measurements at different parts of the spine? The scoliometer, you roll down the area of the spine, right? and it gives the angle? iphone technology- WOW! Guest guest
so for the scoliometer you have the person bend over with feet together, hands together; eyeball for the area of greatest asymmetry when they are slightly bent over, moderately bent over and very bent over. when you find that position, run the scolimeter at at 90 degree angle (vertical to the skin) down the midline of the back, note where the little ball indicates the highest reading - if that number is 7 or greater refer or get films to measure Cobb angle if less and still growing then have them come back in 4-6 months for another measurement. for the iphone which is about the same size shape and heft as the scoliometer, do the same except when you turn the iphone on its side to use the level, put the completely flat side without the volume buttons down against the skin. reading is numeric and easier to see with my older eyes. ________________________________ > To: > From: leeclan@... > Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2012 22:56:35 -0500 > Subject: Re: iphone technology- WOW! > > > > Hi Lynn, > Thanks for the tip! Guest guest
It works well, Iagree. Don't do it often, since the lastest rec's say that screening is not recommended, but if suspected, it is handy. ________________________________________ From: [ ] On Behalf Of Lynn Ho [lynnhri@...] Sent: Wednesday, February 22, 2012 6:54 AM To: practiceimprovement1 Subject: RE: iphone technology- WOW! so for the scoliometer you have the person bend over with feet together, hands together; eyeball for the area of greatest asymmetry when they are slightly bent over, moderately bent over and very bent over. when you find that position, run the scolimeter at at 90 degree angle (vertical to the skin) down the midline of the back, note where the little ball indicates the highest reading - if that number is 7 or greater refer or get films to measure Cobb angle if less and still growing then have them come back in 4-6 months for another measurement. for the iphone which is about the same size shape and heft as the scoliometer, do the same except when you turn the iphone on its side to use the level, put the completely flat side without the volume buttons down against the skin. reading is numeric and easier to see with my older eyes. ________________________________ > To: <mailto:%40yahoogroups.c\ om> > From: leeclan@...<mailto:leeclan%40rochester.rr.com> > Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2012 22:56:35 -0500 > Subject: Re: iphone technology- WOW! > > > > Hi Lynn, > Thanks for the tip!
