Guest guest
I have a sinus infection. I woke up with it yesterday, did not sleep well that night before. It's so painful. I've never experienced anything this. The pressure is incredible. I can feel it pushing on my teeth on my right side and the pain to the right of my nose feels like someone is stabbing me. It's also very painful on my right temple. I couldn't sleep last night. Starting this morning, when I blow my nose my snot is red. I can't get into see my PCP until tomorrow. I have call into the nurse practitioner and I'm hoping she things it's bad enough to either call in an antibiotic or get my in today. I also have a message into my rheumy to see if he'd be willing to call in a prescription for an antibiotic. If none of that works, I'm going to the emergency room. So hopefully that can all be resolved today. But I was planning to stand in line for a flu shot tomorrow. Can you get a flu shot when your sick or have an infection? Guest guest
Jennie, Sorry you're feeling so bad. Sinus infections are so painful. My husband used to get them very frequently until he found something to control his allergies. I hope someone can see you ASAP. My husband got some relief with hot compresses on his face. He also used over the counter decongestant nose spray which helped with the pressure. I'd postpone that flu shot. I hope you feel better. a > > > I have a sinus infection. Guest guest
Jennie, I don't think you will be able to get the flu shot if your sick. I hope you start feeling better soon, my prayers are with you, Tawny > > I have a sinus infection. I woke up with it yesterday, did not sleep > well that night before. It's so painful. Guest guest
Jennie, I'm so sorry to hear that you are so ill. Good idea to try to be seen by a physician ASAP. Maybe hold off on your Humira and MTX until you can talk to one of your doctors. I wouldn't get the flu shot until you're feeling better. Also, until you know exactly what is wrong, it wouldn't be fair to possibly expose others in line with you to something. Hope you'll give us an update soon. I'll tell you where to go! Guest guest
Thanks everyone. The nurse practitioner called in an antibiotic for me yesterday afternoon. She chose Cipro after talking to the pharmacist because apparently any antibiotic can keep methotrexate from eliminating from your blood, and therefore can cause the methotrexate levels to build up. They decided Cipro had the least likely chance of doing this. I talked to my rheumy as well and he said that methotrexate with antibiotics isn't a big deal, but that Cipro was a good choice. I asked him about the flu shot and he said it would not be horrible to get it with a sinus infection, but he also said I'm in the low end of the high risk group and it will be fine if I don't get it. He also said I can keep taking mtx and Humira, just let him know if I get a high fever. He said Tylenol Flu might help, but I feel like I can't take another drug! So hopefully the antibiotics kick in soon. The NP said I could take Motrin and I think that's the only thing that's saved my sanity the last 24 hours. The pain is just so bad. I still couldn't sleep more than a few hours last night. Jennie > > I have a sinus infection. I woke up with it yesterday, did not sleep > well that night before. It's so painful. Guest guest
you need to be careful and mindful of your symptoms when you go on antibiotics while taking mtx. my doc put me on bactrim for an infection in my ankle and i was so miserable. the two meds just don't get along too well and it left me sick and in a lot of abdominal pain. i was only on the bactrim (a sulfa drug) for a few days, but the side effects occured after the first dose. if you don't already own one, i highly recommend getting a good drug handbook. you can buy them at most book stores. it is an excellent way to keep yourself informed about the meds you are on and the ones to avoid while you're on them......Marina in Ohio
