Guest guest
Joyce, you bet I'll have some info. for all of us. It may not all be good. Two days ago I was so miffed I could barely control it. Because Apria did not get back to me in four days! we lost the accommodations we wanted on the Zuiderdam. So we are now going Carnival Legend. But the problems are still there for 02. This time we went ahead and booked the room, with Lysa and family next room! Before we had adjoining rooms but this is ok. I will need to make a decision as to how to fly from Ptld to Ft. Lauderdale and then board the ship with some sort of o2. I cannot fly with o2 on airplane but I can take o2 aboard the ship. Sher ipf 5-06 Re: Sher needs advice Sher, The Apria office here has a person who will help set up travel arrangements. If you can ever get a call back from yours...ask to talk to this person. Guest guest
Joyce, forgot to say that Apria here as a travel person too but she is the one who didn't call back and didn't respond to my requests for a call back. When we finally spoke she said she had just been sooooo busy. I told her nevertheless, it is common courtesy to return a call when one is requested. To be ignored when it's important info. to have is inexcusable! Now I'm working with her again for the Carnival cruise. Guest guest
Grey, I know I am repeating myself with posts here and I don't mean to say, "Yes but" to everything...However, getting to the airport is no problem (shuttle bus) I cannot take o2 on Southwest and I'm still trying to find a portable concentrator that I can take onboard. Seems to me if Apria does not have those then they still should provide it from a sister-company or something and not charge ME 700$. I can fly another airline that provides o2 but I'm fighting that because family is going SWA. We can all fly a different airline, but I'm trying not to make others make changes to accommodate me, if I can find a solution. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Sher, It's my understanding that commercial airliners in flight are pressurized to 8000 feet above sea level. That's like a mile and a half up which means the level of O2 in the cabin air is significantly less than you would be used to. Forgive me but I can't remember if you use O2 all the time or just with activity. (Sorry! Sometimes I can't remember what I did two minutes ago so don't take it personally.. Not too bright these days) Have you asked your doc about what your O2 needs would be on a long flight? This is a coast to coast flight, correct? For me I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Know what I mean? But then I'm a parnoid control freak so you can't go by me!! Beth IPF 06/06Draw close. Hold hands. Guest guest
Sher, I'll be interested to hear what your doctor says. Since I'm on O2 all the time, it's a moot point for me. If I go somewhere some type of O2 has to go with me or I end up being something someone has to step over. How are you feeling these days? I pray for you all the time Sher! Beth IPF 06/06Draw close. Guest guest
Even if you have respiratory problems but don't normally use supplemental oxygen, you may need to when you fly. A simple test at your doctor's office can help you decide if you need oxygen on the plane. How will my doctor know whether or not I will need oxygen? An oximeter, attached to your finger or earlobe, can determine how much oxygen your blood is carrying. Most people at sea level have a saturation level of about 96%, which means their blood is carrying 96% of its normal capacity. According to Dr. Balkissoon, people who suffer from COPD and have a saturation level of 89% or less, at rest or while walking a normal pace, are at a significant risk of their oxygen levels dropping dangerously low while in flight. They must have supplemental oxygen on a plane From that article Yes i belive that pf and copd would have the same requirements to fly PSher K Bauman wrote: , you are so sweet to meet the needs. I wonder if ipf would follow the same info? I do not have COPD....I will call my Dr, on Mon. Thanks!
