My HITECH consultant for meaningful use just told me that meaningful use continues this year. If you reported last year for 90 days, keep it up this year. The criteria will continue to be stage 1 criteria, but the percentages will be slightly higher ( details to follow).

He assured me that I will be able to continue reporting this year and be paid for year 2 despite implementation for stage 2 being postponed to 2013 or 2014.

I reported 90 days in 2011 for MU. Will be paid in 2012 $18,000.

Continue reporting same criteria for stage 1 in 2012 and attest early 2013 based on 2012 data. I will be paid $12,000 early 2013.

It may be possible to continue reporting stage 1 in 2013 to receive third payment early 2014, before needing to meet stage 2 in 2014.

Don't stop this slow moving train.

So two IMPs walk into the bar, the first asks,"Want a drink?" The second says,"Yes, but first I have to meet meaningful use!"

How about changing it to "Two IMPs were crossing the bar"- in the Lord Tennyson poem sense. What would their conversationbe like? "What did you in? The Hamster wheel?, ACO's?, HMO's?, EHR attestation?"> > > > >> > > I agree I have to go back home, I am off today and I was reviewing > > > some patient info from previous pCPs.> > > I am hungry too. So basically the " bonus " for early attestors is that , we can continue  the same worklfow for multiple yrs with stage 1 rather than having to grapple with higher stage challenges.

That is what he is saying. Devil is always in the details. Don't let your workflow revert to baseline, it may need to be documented monthly. For $50/day 20 days per month I'll keep it going for awhile longer.

PQRI now PQRS bonous is only 0.5% medicare collections. I dought if this is worth it, but I hate the idea of fines in the not distant future.

But will you have to do it for EVERY DAY?

I held off even trying to get into Meaningful Use as a solo for 2011, investing in more time/some monies for the EMR upgrade, but craming in 90 days at the end of 2011 was just never going to do it, esp as then I'd be comitted to EVERY DAY EVERY PT in 2012.

So I held off until 2012, having worked on getting ready for MU for a 90 day period and, well, now I know that even if I push myself to get 90 days soon, since I don't get to the $24K in a year, that I'll be waiting until 2013 for the monies.

That's ok with me, as the efficiencies from an EMR platform will help me and my 2 FTEs do things better -- the money is just a small additional help.

The penalty of not reaching the goal isn't all that high either -- I see alot of Medicare Advantage pts which does NOT apply to the monies by the way, just "straight" Medicare!

Do EMR, look at what it will help you with. Don't do EMR just for the bonus.

Matt in Western PA

BTW final upgrade to MU SOAPware today with current database, hosted version.

User of SOAPWare since 1997, every pt since solo in 2004.

I support good software, but software doesn't support me!

,  if one reported 90 days in 2011,  in 2012  do you have to report only 90 days to qualify?

If 90 in 2011 you will need to report 365 in 2012.
