Hi, new to this group. Our introduction to tcs started in Feb. We

took our almost 6 year old daughter in to the dr because she was

having bowel accidents rather suddenly. They found a sacral dimple

and requested an x-ray and an MRI. The x-ray showed that her colon

was full and she was suffering from cronic constipation. We had to

wait 7 weeks to get an MRI at Kosair Children's hospital in

Louisville. This is the report we got back-we are not real sure what

all this means.

Findings: The spinal cord is directed posteriorly with a low-lying

conus. The conus terminates at the upper leverl of L3. There is no

visualized associated lipoma. On the t2 weighted axial images there is

minimal thickening of the filum terminale. There is no evidence of a

dorsal dermal sinus. Marrow signal is within normal limits. There is

near anatomic alignment.

Impression: Posterior dircted cord wtih a low-lying conus and minimal

thickening of the filum terminale. Recommend neurosurgery consult to

evaluate for tethered cord syndroms.

Does this sound like tight filum?

We have our ns consult next Wed the 26th with Dr. Moriarty. Since we

started this we have been able to control the constipation issue with

glycolax and she hasn't had anymore accident issues. She does

complain from time to time that her lower back hurts especially if she

has been walking alot. Other wise no other symptoms. We are assuming

that Dr. Moriarty will suggest surgery-anyone else with a child of

this age? What is the recovery like? What are we looking at long

term as far as follow up? What to watch for?

Thanks for sharing your stories, reading the past posts has been

really helpful and makes us feel not so alone in all of this.

Christi
