I lost my best friend today and I am grieving something terrible. My beloved cat Kosmo developed a urinary blockage while we were out this afternoon. I came home and he couldn't walk and was obviously in extreme distress. By the time I got him to the vet, he was in shock, his temp was down from a normal 101 degrees to 96 degrees, and his bladder was the size of a grapefruit. The vet anesthetized him and tried to catheterize him to remove the blockage, but he passed away during the procedure. He was just too sick to make it through it. I am heartbroken. I adopted him from a rescue league 7 years ago and he has been with me through some awful times. He was beside me throughout my 14 month illness last year, and never left my side when I was at home. I am going to miss him so much, it hasn't even sunk in yet. My 11 year old is taking it very hard. We brought Kosmo home and my husband buried him by the bird bath and bird feeders in the backyard. He was still warm when I handed him to and it was almost more than I could take. That cat did more for me than any human being could ever do, and I feel like I have lost a child. and I lit 7 candles, 1 for each year he was with us, and put them on the stone that my husband placed over the spot where he is buried, and one of them is still burning. I'd like to think it's the spirit of my baby telling me he's going to be okay. (((( Chelle
Guest guest
Chelle! I am so very sorry for your loss! It is so difficult to lose a friend, especially when we develop such strong bonds with them. I can relate as I had a cat who also passed during the anesthesia given to unblock him. He was only a year old, so that made it that much more difficult to deal with since he was so young. I don't know if I posted this on this group or not previously, but I believe that when our pets pass, they go on to the Rainbow Bridge, where they feel no pain. Here's the link. http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm Sending hugs your way and keeping your family in my thoughts. Hang in there. Just know that he is not in pain anymore and is watching over you and your family.
Guest guest
I am a cat lady big time. I have four at this time. They are my comfort and buddies. I am so sorry for your loss. I've had to also loose my pets. " CopCar " was a black and white we had to put down. It was years ago and still..when I look at a picture of this sweet, gentle soul...I tear right up. I know how you feel. It sucks we have to outlive our beloved pets. Guest guest
Thank you , and everyone else who wrote to me. I'm having a tough time dealing with this. Luckily my friend's baby came last night, so I spent yesterday taking care of her five children and was too busy to think about it too much. I can just see his grave from our family room window, and in the spring, we're going to put a flowering bush there, along with a marker. He's right by the bird feeders and bird bath, so I'd like to think he's out there enjoying the show. I took to 's this afternoon to get him an art set, and he wanted to go to Petsmart to look at the cats. I told him it's much too soon to get another one, but he wanted to look anyway. When we got there, there was a cat that had just come in on Friday night from the Roseville Vet Clinic, where Kosmo died on Friday afternoon. He's 7 months old and looks exactly like Kosmo probably did before he became a stray and got so many knicks and scars. I know we just can't get another cat this soon, but I felt like I was looking at a ghost. The candle that was still burning when I posted burned all night Friday night. It's just been eerie. I feel like his spirit is still with me. I had seen the Rainbow Bridge many times. There's a cross stitch kit that has it that I might order to do for my son, who is having a rough time with his death. Again, thank you to everyone who wrote. It really is a death in the family.
