Persephone

Persephone's room is all pink rosebuds -

she has a princess four-poster bed

white with a white canopy

dolls and teddy bears and a framed picture

of Daddy and Mommy when they were

young -

Persephone's closet blooms with flowered

dresses

shetland sweaters and matching skirts

and she has a cork bulletin board

with a school banner, a faded corsage

from you know who -

Persephone's mother is mild and sweet

she belongs to the Garden Club and to

St. Margaret's Guild

today's the equinox and Miss Stein at school

said to look out the window and notice the position of

the setting sun

Persephone leans on the chintz cushions

while opening the latticed windows

and there is a god there

a god with dark eyes and dark intent

a dark sweater and a dark gun -

She screams, but as the sun sets

she is already down the black well of time

when Persephone's mother returns

she says: Oh, dear!

a.o.howell

Start the year off right. Easy

ways to stay in shape in the new year.

it appears to be working.

Dear fa, Alice and all,

You ask some general questions about the archetypal dreamwork

that I am engaged in with the North of Eden Community. There is a great

deal of information available on the website www.northofeden.com.

In addition, the community has published a little booklet that

summarizes some of the basics of the approach. I will quote from it below,

and I also invite specific questions from fa or any of you. I may ask

Bill to help answering your queries.

The core work of Archetypal Dreamwork is one-on-one individual

work with a highly trained dreamwork practitioner. The work done in

personal sessions is based on, guided and informed by the dreams brought to

each session by the individual. Because the psyche speaks in ways that

are uniquely meaningful for each person, the job of the therapist is to

discover the meaning of the people, places, situations, feelings and things in each

dream as they relate specifically to the individual.

Each person and every dream is approached with openness, caring

and respect in order to allow the individualness of the person to emerge.

I would also like to add that while I was attending Jungian

seminars in New York several years ago I met an analyst who had studied in Zurich

in the 1950’s, when Jung was still active there. Much of what he

described about that experience resonates closely with what I have learned

about this dreamwork. It was a heart-centered approach that focused on

dreams as the direct conduit to the Divine.

It is quite different from the 4 and a half years of Jungian

analysis that I experienced. I don’t want to denigrate that

process, because it was instrumental in bringing me to the point where I could

enter and appreciate archetypal therapy as practiced by Marc Bregman. The

difference is that the relatively dry, intellectual and often academic approach

left my heart unfulfilled and desiring more. In part inspired by Alice

Howell, I told my analyst that I wanted to deepen my knowledge of and

relationship with the Divine. He responded that if I wanted that I should

go see a priest. I knew immediately that I was done with him and was ready

to move on.

There are many roads leading to the Divine place.

Archetypal dreamwork is the one that has worked for me and for many others who

are similarly engaged.

Love and Peace,

Burmeister

It is perfectly possible to be a successful professional woman, provided that one emphasizes PROFESSIONAL and does not either play that woman card or alternatively try to be a man in a dress. Dear Toni,

Since when does fa distrust and hate the rich (who are by

definition " enriched " )? As for the rest, a rising tide still raises

all boats. We have the fattest, most air-conditioned " poor " people in

the world.

Dear Dan,

This may come as a great surprise...fa is quite liberal. being rich or

being not rich has little to do with many consciouss people's political

beliefs. Money is not all (tho' nice to have, I agree..

Moral reasoning is not only a quality of the middle class...even poor and

very rich have ethics and morality....amazing isn't it?

Fat is usually a sign of poor nutrition...not over eating. Boy do you need

to update that " welfare queen image " Even a hap hazard reading of today's

literature could set you straight...but one has to want to do that.

love,

Toni

Dear Toni,

What I said was that I don't think fa hates the rich.

Fat is a sign of overeating and indolence - take it from one who knows

:-).

  • 2 weeks later...

Dan says: >>According to what I read, it was the girly act that won over many of the Democratic women voters of NH (per exit polls, not just speculation) and tipped the race to HRH - I mean, HRC.<< --So if a man tears up during a veterans' parade, his tears are "manly" but if a woman tears up talking about her love for her country, it's a "girly act"? Who decides when emotion is authentic, and when it says something about gender or does not?
