Gosh, when I hear your story, it's just like me! Hopefully, you

won't have to wait too long on the disability. It took a year for me

to get on social security disability, and it takes two years for

medicare. Have you applied for medicaid through your state

services? It sure wouldn't hurt to try.

When my husband got insurance, then they had a pre-existing clause to

wait 12 months, so I have been through hell, and back. I am

currently with no insurance, but the Medicare will start in January.

I have survived on the patient assistance program, you should talk to

your doctor about help in that way. There are many that can help

you. I am taking Humira injections right now, so I'm thankful.

Are you taking any meds at all?? This is not good, and I think that

your rheumy should try to be helping you find some type of solution.

, has tons of info, she can help you with any questions. I will

keep you in my prayers, T

Good luck for a speedy and positive decision on your SS disability.

When I applied I did it myself, without an attorney, and was approved

in four weeks, had my check (including retroactive) in six weeks. As

they probably explained to you, a lot depends on when they declare

you to first have been disabled. You can get up to one year prior to

when you filed (or may be from when you made your appointment)

retroactive pay. If you were declared disabled at least one year

prior to when you applied you will be paid for that time and that

year will also apply towards your " two year wait " for Medicare.

If (and I truly hope this does not happen) you should be denied and

have to appeal, when you finally are approved all benefits are

retroactive to when you applied and when you were declared disabled.

Will be hoping for your SS to be approved very quickly, and for your

husband's insurance to kick in soon also.

Thanks Tawney and a...I have an appointment with my GP on the 8th

and hope he will help me until I can get to a rheumatologist (once my

husbands insurance starts)...and I'm going to check into medicaid

tomorrow. Thanks for the info and support!

Thanks to you too Elaine...gosh, it sure would be great if my

disability claim goes thru as smoothly and rapidly as yours, but

realistically I know most people get turned down the first time so I'm

trying not to get my hopes up too much ya know!?

Sometimes it takes a few months to get appointments with rheumatologists, so

if you expect to have insurance soon, it may be a good idea to make the

appointment now. I hope your insurance doesn¹t have a pre-existing

condition clause that will make you wait a year for pre-existing conditions

to be covered. Many policies have that, but sometimes with group

insurances, they will waive it. I hope your GP can give you samples or

something to hold you over.

My hubby's insurance is a group insurance that we don't think has any

pre-existing clause in it...hopefully! I figure when I go to my GP on

the 8th I'll ask him if he recommends any particular rheumy and make

an appointment. Also my doc is really good about giving me samples so

hopefully he'll start me on something!
