Guest guest
Hi again everyone. I was searching thru the messages but I couldnt really find anything specific and I was hoping someone might be able to give me some suggestions. I am taking 17.5 mg of MTX Im every week. When they switched me to the injectable form several months ago, I thought there would be less side effects. But, the first two weeks, within an hour I was vomiting.I try to take it at night now and premedicate with Phenergan. The nausea has gotten better and the vomiting is gone. The problem now I think, is psychological. Just the thought of Mon. coming around each week seems like it is enough to make sick. Last week I just couldnt force myself to take the shot. Of course Im paying for it now. Has anyone else dealt with this and do you have any suggestions to try and overcome it? Im also taking Prednisone 5 mg/d and one to two lortab a day. Hopefully, taking it with food and daily Zantac is preventing me from ulcers. Sorry this is disjointed. Ive taken the Phenergan again and trying to make myself take this weeks MTX tonight. Thanks Larry
Guest guest
Larry, I would talk to your doctor, we all react different to meds. I do understand the dread of the injection, I do too, so it could be a part of it. Some times I just sit, and stare at my shot trying to get the courage to do it. We all go through this, your not alone. I will keep you in my prayers, and please contact the doctor if you think it's making you sick,....T > > Hi again everyone. > > I was searching thru the messages but I couldnt really find anything > specific and I was hoping someone might be able to give me some > suggestions. > I am taking 17.5 mg of MTX Im every week. Guest guest
Hi Larry, I was also on MTX injections at 15mg a week. I had the same problems with nausea and vomiting. I also had bad mouth, eye and throat sores, diarrhea and dizziness. I really felt like death warmed over everytime I too MTX. My doc never offered me anything for the side effects other than folic acid 5mg a day and Leucovorin which I took on MTX day. Still I did not get any real relief from the side effects. I finally like you got fed up and stopped taking it. Now there is a shortage of injectable MTX so even if I wanted to restart it there is none to buy. Which is fine by me. Some people do well on MTX and for some like me the side effects far outweighed any benefit! I would talk to your doc and hopefully he can help you find a workable solution. If you are not taking Folic acid daily I would talk to your doc about starting folic acid. Leucovorin is also used to help supress the side effects as well as a rescue med to reverse the MTX. Guest guest
Larry, I am taking the pill form of MTX the first time I took it I also threw up, but after that I have had no problems. You might try Ginger capsules that really helps with the nausea. But I would also talk to your Dr. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
