Guest guest
Hi. We would love to help you out, post your blood sugar readings to the list so we can start to study them and help you adjust your insulins. Harry has a great way to post the information via his reports. Harry, can you show her an example of how to post it for us to help her out. BTW welcome back and glad to see you are on *modern* insulins! Good for you! Those who are wanting to see how this carb counting system works while taking insulin, just watch us help her get her sugars 80 pre meal and her 2 hour post meal test 120 or less. Should take us only about 3 weeks or less*smile* Regards, hi all > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
Arlene, has asked me to give you an example of the way I posted to the list for several months until I got my glucose levels under very tight control. While I do not keep a daily record of my glucose levels and insulin dosage and exercise in a word procvesser file now, I will outline a format for keeping such a record for you. First create a word file in your computer, I call mine BATES, and place a link to it on your desktop, then create a hotkey for it. This makes the file readily available to you at any time you are on your computer. The outline for such a file goes as follows: *** Today's date Last night: Post dinner or supper or bedtime: g stands for glucose level reading Lantus dosage number of units Breakfast today: g before breakfast glucose level c number of carbs consumed H units of Humalog Two hours post breakfast: g glucose level after breakfast Lunch: g pre-lunch glucose level c number of carbs grams consumed H units of Humalog dosage Dinner/supper: g pre-meal glucose level c number of carb grams consumed H units of Humalog dosage Bedtime: g glucose reading just prior to bedtime Lantus units of dosage *** The above is the basic outline, but you are not limited to the amount of information you post and the number and kinds of comments you wish to include in the information given. For instance you can insert the kind and amount of exercise you do, any snacks you wish to add or any thing you think is important for consideration for yourself and any body else who looks over such a post. For instance if you have an infection you are treating or fighting might be included. Then I just copy the information between the two lines of *** to the clipboard and paste it into a message to the list. For instance my message thread carried the subject line of: Advice for Harry I used this type of post on a daily basis until I felt I had mastered the art of diabetes conttrol, which took me three months, but I had it down fairly well in less than a month. Had I listened to the advice given me by my fellow listers, I would probably have mastered the diabetes management system in a lot less than three months, but I always like to experiment, and tried to figure out all kinds of ratios which I could apply mathematically, but found it did not work, since the glucose levels, amount of carbs consumed and the insulin dosage was not a strictly linear relationship, and it varies from individual and from time to time within the same individual. Nevertheless such a daily post not only helped me to master carb counting and insulin dosing, but I credit my daily post for saving my leg from amputation by an infection, which and Pat spotted, not by any direct observation of my leg, but by seeing some inconsistencies they noticed in my daily posts. I also used my daily post and the information I gained from my fellow listers to teach my physician about treating a diabetic, and he has referred some of his patients to me for education and training on carb counting, insulin dosing and basic diabetic diet and management. You, too, can use the experts here to assist you in mastery of diabetes control! hi all > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
Hi Harry that's a very good idea, I should try that. it also helps me to learn to use hot keys. I'm learning to navigate with jaws. Best regards, Bonnecarre hi all > > > > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
Arlene, What is this Lantus 120? What do you mean he started you on all this insulin and then took a hike for a month or so? By the time he gets back you could be dead, or at the least hospitalized! I would highly recommend you start posting your carb intake and insulin both Lantus and Humalog on at least a once per day frequency, if not more than once per day. What is this crap?: " I think he is using 5 units per 15 carbs not really sure " You had better be sure! After all your life depends on being sure. Did he tell you about glucose tablegts? Do you have them on hand? Do you know how to use them? If so, what does one 4 gram carb glucose tablet do to your glucose level? Do you take a glucose level before ingesting carbohydrates and then take it again two hours after you have eaten? If not, why not? What is the reasoning on varying your carbohydrate intake before you have adjusted the proper amount of Humalog to use and the time of carbohydrate ingestion? The answers to these and other questions are essential for helping you gain control over diabetes. may have the quiz he gave me at the beginning of my insulin experience. If he does, maybe he will post the quiz again. In the meantime I will look for it, too. hi all > > > > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
Arlene, What is Lantis 120? is that the dosage or part of the name? If that is the dosage, it is too much, I'm sure! I hope you keep some glucose tabs around! Re: hi all Arlene, What is this Lantus 120? What do you mean he started you on all this insulin and then took a hike for a month or so? Guest guest
Harry, please post an actual sample of one of your sugars/recording days with the outline you presented filled in so we/she can see it in action. I think it will help some. thanks. Regards, hi all > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
Theresa, you have to start checking your blood sugar before you eat a meal, and 2 hours past eating a meal. You should eat meals 4 hours a part. Your pre meal sugar should be 80 and your 2 hour post meal test should be 120 or less. If you start posting your sugars to the list and what you have ate, we can help you adjust your diet to reach those goals. Regards, hi all > > > > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
, Are you sure about the pre-meal glucose reading being 80? Mine is hardly ever that low, but it does usually run between 80 and 120 most of the time, unless I have a night time snack, which hikes my glucose level in the morning to between 120 and 170. This has caused me to practically eliminate night time snacks. hi all > > > > > > > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
ya, I don't eat to much of a bed time snack either for the same reason. Yes, your pre meal should be 80 to 90. Regards, hi all > > > > > > > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. Guest guest
This would mean I need to increase my dose of Lantus again, since my morning glucose levels run around 100 to 115 most of the time. What do you think? hi all > > > > > > > > > > > > > just a note to say hi I used to be in the group and have returned. > I > > > > started using lantas and humalog and I am looking for any advice you > can > > > > offer!! > > > > > thank you Arlene > > > > > superblindwoman@... im messenger is > superblindwoman.arlene > > > if > > > > you want to chat!! > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
100 to 115 is fine for a morning sugar IMO since most would kil for those readings. If you were 130 or higher each morning, yes, I'd say up it. I think your lantus is fine how it is right now IMO. Guest guest
Carole, You are in my thoughts and I feel your frustrations. I am in the very same boat!! We moved and I am with a new doctor and he acts like it will break his hand and ego if he writes a pain script. The doctor I had for 20 years plus knew me like a book and knew my pain but this new MD is just so paranoid about scripts :-( Good Luck. coryandben2000 wrote: Hi all, It's been ages since I posted; I have relocated to central Mo. Guest guest
My doc knows me as well. It's a God send. It's nice but it took getting the disability to be able to get him back and get away from those heartless clinics. You let a cat or dog suffer you end up fined or jailed..but it's ok for us to suffer even if you have proof your pain is valid. There should be something legal we could be backed up on.....like negligence and have a say about what meds we get if we've been on a regime that worked. I've had it as far as being " experimented " on. *¬*.¸¸.·´¨`»*«´¨`·.¸¸.*¬* On the internet, no knows you're a cat. ~StrykerMom~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --- Half50pint wrote: > Carole, > You are in my thoughts and I feel your > frustrations. Guest guest
Have you ever been tested for Lyme Disease? Penni Hi All Hi, I am kinda new to the group. I can't remember if I have posted or not, seems like I have but can't find it. My name is Dayle and I am a single 48 yr old mother of two grown children and one 5 yr old grandson. He is the joy of my life, as are my pets. I live alone in a house I've lived in for 10 years. It is due for foreclosure, because I got conned into selling it to a " friend " who disappeared and because I'm not on the loan, I have no say in anything. So far no action, there are thousands here in Colorado, so maybe I'll get a break. Can't really afford to live anywhere anyway, I get $589.00 disability. I have Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, Chronic Fatigue, Hashimotos disease, PTSD, Anxiety disorder, depression, planters fasheitis, dry eyes and dry knees, high blood pressure, high cholestrol, and a few other conditions. When I was younger I never even had a childhood illness. I started feeling ill in 2000 and had never heard of most of the conditions I have. I have a lot of pain, but keep it to myself, cause no one really wants to hear it and they avoid giving pain meds anyway. Today I saw an endocrenologist, and my thyroid is enlarged, probably due to overworking. My lymp nodes are as well, so they are planning an ultrasound on my thyroid to make sure there are no " growths " . I have had trouble swallowing and eating for over a month now, and sleeping for hours and days sometimes. I also just learned about the arthritis in my back, and I am sure a bone density test is next. They did up my thyroid med so hopefully in a few weeks I won't be sleeping my life away. I try to keep busy, I walk all the time and play with my grandson. Today I feel pretty ill, they took several vials of blood and I had to fast and didn't take my meds till lunch. This is really difficult for me cause I have always been so active, and now find myself unable to do the smallest things. Its not that I have lost interest, its just I don't have the energy. Plus I am getting the run around from the state regarding my benefits. Well, I didn't mean to be a drag, but I am hoping to make some friends here, and contribute some info as well. Thanks for having me. Blessings, DAyle
Guest guest
You know, I have been tested for so many things, I'm not really sure. I will check into that. Right now, since yesterday morning in fact, I have been suffering with a very painful thigh. I have tried my vicodin, hot baths, heating pad, a couple beers(only thing that relxes my muscles), nothing seems to help. As a matter of fact I feel like it hurts more today. I am worried about a blood clot. I have been house sitting all week, and just returned my friend home from the airport, so I am going to lay down for a bit, haven't had much sleep this week. If it still feels bad when I get up, I will call the nurse line. I don't have transportation anyway, so can't really go to the hospital, but I want to make sure it isn't a serious situation. I cannot even walk on it, and I'm a tough chick. But this really hurts, like a giant muscle cramp or someone putting a blood pressure cuff on my thigh and pumping it up too tight. Never had a clot so don't really know what to look for. I will check in later. Dayle > > Have you ever been tested for Lyme Disease? Penni > > > Hi All > > > Hi, I am kinda new to the group. Guest guest
Just to let you know, Lyme disease will rarely show up positive on a blood test, so if you are tested and it comes back negative, it doesn't mean you don't have it. I would recommend you seek out a Lyme disease specialist in your area who knows what they're doing. I want to see you get on the road to recovery. You sound like I did 6 years ago. Please take this seriously. Penni Hi All > > > Hi, I am kinda new to the group. I can't remember if I have posted > or not, seems like I have but can't find it. Guest guest
Dayle, I hope you'll be ok and get to feeling better. I wouldn't wantt to think the worst right off and yet just the same check it out, because if Vicodin and a couple of beers combined aren't cutting the pain your in some pain & I know it. Guest guest
Hi hope your doing great . It is cold outside the temp is now a balmy -7. in Wisconsin . Last night it was a balmy -14 and the winds were so strong that it made it feel like -20. Needless to say the dog did her business and back in she went. my pain level is now a constant 7. bummmmmer! Just thought that I would check in and see how you are doing. I had a court date but the Judge said he was tired of reading all the complaints from the insurance company that all he wanted from me is my affidavit and canceled the court. I don't know if that is good or bad. Hopefully I will find out soon. My doctor refuses to see me since as of last November my husband was fired from his job and now working temp places we have no health insurance and the pain is spreading all through my hip and left shoulder. The headaches are more frequent. Any way hope that your good. Keep smiling.
Guest guest
I am also in WI and boy is it cold! All of our roads were frozen with ice today so anywhere we tried to drive caused the cars to slide. Not fun. We have a fire going in the fireplace and are bundled up inside! Gotta love the WI weather. Re: hi all Hi , I, too am in Wisconsin. Wind chills here were a -39 at 9am. Sorry to hear about your court thing. I am having pain also, mostly in my joints. I've had a continuous headache since August of 2006. This new pain began in October. All my blood tests show normal and I can't get my doctor to take this pain seriously. Here is hoping you keep warm. Kellie
