Metformin is a vitamin B antagonist. Diabetics need extra vitamin B to begin with, because of poorer utilization. The two add up to enough of a vitamin B shortfall to elevate homocysteine. A person using Metformin had better be taking a B-complex supplement. When a study fails to account for proper vitamin B management in association with Metformin and heart risk, or at least frequent measurement of homocysteine, said study should be dismissed. I suggest that you screen that text and let us know if there is any explicit mention of having controlled for that confounding factor. Betcha betcha they blew it.
