Thanks, Penni Pain meds What is stronger than Methadone for pain relief? I went from Ultram, to Vicodin to Percocet to Methadone. Now I'm in need of something stronger, become very tolerant to Methadone. I take 2-3 10mg pills at a time every 4-5 hours now. Guest guest Posted September 19, 2007 Report Share Posted September 19, 2007 Hi , Do you have to take any breakthru meds too? My sister is on Methadone and she has been on it 4 yrs too. She is allowed up to 80 mgs per day, but never takes that many and she has Roxicodone for breakthru with she takes most of those each month. She is allowed 4 of them and they are 15mg. Plus she takes Zanaflex as well, muscle relaxant. I know everyone's pain is different and how much of it they can tolerate is different too. Myself, I take Morphine, MSIR and Zanaflex for pain and Celebrax for my knee's. I have a friend who went on Methadone last year and he has taken the heavy duty stuff in the past as well. He swears by the Methadone. He says it's the best pain medicine he has ever taken. He only takes a couple of them a day and they are all he needs. He is one who use to have to use 2 of the 100mcg Duragesic patches before plus a breakthru med. So Methadone has really helped him. Take care, Tommie PS. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in. I've just been titrated up with my pain doctor over the past 3 months. They moved me up from 45 mg x 2 a day of MS Contin... to 120 mg. x 2 a day of MS Contin. I also take perc for breakthru pain. I go thru about 100 tabs of percs every 60 days. The pain relief is ok.. but not as great as I'd like. They are willing to keep moving it up, or change the drug. Any suggestions? Guest guest Posted February 14, 2008 Report Share Posted February 14, 2008 I have seen meds mentioned on here I usually have no clue what they are or what for so I thought I would ask for some help. I have MD and suffer from mostly joint pain related to it. I have arthritis in my back and knees and a shoulder that " floats " due to lack of stablizing muscles. I tried several drugs including a morphine based one, vicadin, and a generic fentanol patch which all made me ill. I am now on percecet (cant spell) which works kinda but I still have breakthrough pain and dont want to up my dose too high as I am raising toddlers, gotta stay on my toes. I would like to research other options. Unfortunantly my doc seems out of suggestions. Do you have any I could bring up with him?
