Guest guest
Dear et al, I have come to appreciate the Myers Briggs inventory as a helpful tool for self-observing the ego state one has developed over their lifetime. I don't use it dogmatically and find it quite curious that so many people already know their " type " as they may also already know their Enneagram number. These typologies have developed a rather elaborate dogma around them, some of which I take with a big grain of salt, especially as to their proper interpretation. I wonder if Jung would subscribe to the way they have developed over the years since he theorized their aspects. WWJD now? Like so much about Jung's later theoretical developments, he would undoubtedly continue to prefer being Jung to being a " Jungian. " It is my own conviction now, especially through my life purpose coaching, that the ego state, as such, is only part of the psychic structure and certainly not the most important one even as it is the most easily observable. At some point in psychic development, the real " action " seems to be going beyond studying the ego state and moving on to an awakening to the central Self archetype (along that dotted line about which Alice keeps reminding us). But the Self (center and totality) must be encouraged to observe the quirky ego, out there on the edge of things, before consciousness can dawn through Self-observation, with heavy doses of curiousity AND compassion, one's habitual behavior - operating as it does in the realm of time and space. Then life gets very interesting, because we can then ask: " who is doing the observing! " I don't necessarily expect that others see it this way, indeed I have been challenged by those in the " helping " arts, but I have found it helpful along the way.
