Guest guest
Hi every body perhaps I am trying to rule the world, hopefully not and I would dearly love not to have to look at any support board for help but in our case this is the only option we have at present. I have trawled through the search engines and found there is little to no information on AF unless you know where to look. I also notice only in Yahoo that you get directed into a Support group, and this is for the Maze. this board is a very good board but ours I believe offers that one to one relationship for support. I also have concerns as I read the Maze board and there are mails from sufferers that state that they have been through the net for months before they found this board, also we have little or no response form Europe.(This could be due to Language). What is needed is for the search engines, when searching for AF there would be a choice for a support group. this is all very well but how do we do it. Would it be worth asking somebody like Yahoo to list our board in return for using a banner advertising . this I am sure is emotive but I am sure there are lots of people out there needing help. regards C ********************************************************************** This message may contain information which is confidential or privileged. Guest guest
I agree - I don't quite know how to get us higher up the list in search engines. if you search for " atrial fibrillation support " you will probably never find us if you search for " atrial fibrillation support yahoo " you have a better chance interestingly, if you search for " AfibSupport " you have a very good chance of finding us in the first 10 items (either directly or one link away) but I don't think this is something somebody would type! (I've tried these combinations on google, googlegroups, excite, hotbot, lycos, yahoo and alta vista) I've no idea how we can improve things but I'll have a think about it. The more we can encourage other sites to put links to us the better chance we have of someone finding us. cheers -- D AFibbers Database http://www.dialsolutions.com/af AFib Support Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AFIBsupport
Guest guest
May I suggest: First, somebody has to register the web page with all the search engines. There are services that help with this for a fee, but an individual can do it through visits to all the appropriate search engines. That takes time. Second, all the keywords should be included in the text as many times as possible. The web page should include all common pseudonyms, eg: atrial fibrillation, afib, arrhythmia, cardiac etc. Third, I believe that the yahoo page limits text to about 2000 characters. If somebody wants to volunteer, they could create a web page somewhere else that references the Yahoo page and then make the message longer and provide more information. There is a keyword meta-tag that can be used near the top of the html that lists all the keywords for the search engines. I think that it goes something like <meta keyword= " afib, arrhythmia, etc. " >. I haven't done this for some time so I'm not certain if that is correct. Fourth, it sometimes takes several attempts to get registered with each search engine. -Dale from Arizona At 03:45 PM 4/25/01 +0100, you wrote: >I agree - I don't quite know how to get us higher up the list in search >engines. >if you search for > " atrial fibrillation support " >you will probably never find us > >if you search for > " atrial fibrillation support yahoo " >you have a better chance > >interestingly, if you search for > " AfibSupport " >you have a very good chance of finding us in the first 10 items (either directly >or one link away) but I don't think this is something somebody would type! >(I've tried these combinations on google, googlegroups, excite, hotbot, lycos, yahoo >and alta vista) > > >I've no idea how we can improve things but I'll have a think about it. Guest guest
Moderators and Geeks: We need to up-technology the HTML that this site sends out if we are going to realize the potential future of this group. Things you might consider doing include: 1. Include META tags in the headers containing all of he usual AF related buzz words on every page you put out, so that if a search engine stumbles into this area it will quickly latch onto what we are about. 2. Set up a mirrored alt.support.AF newsgroup and set up the summary message forwarder to put daily summaries into that group. That way the world can see what we are doing, but only our server will inherit the megaspan that this will draw. You might also set it up so we can determine whether this is a " private " or " public " message, as I know that I have posted a few things here that I wouldn't have on a completely public board that was open to search engines. Maybe if we were to publicly post only those messages with " Public " in their subject. 3. There are some automatic translators out there. While they are poor, they would provide a means for people speaking other languages to read our posts. All we need do is to put a " Translate " button on our pages. 4. Every couple of weeks, post messages in related areas, such as alt.support.thyroid, mentioning our group. 5. Brace for a wave of newbies, who lack the skills to find our site without the above efforts. 6. I really appreciate the efforts that our moderators and geeks (whom I can most relate to) are putting into this site which has ben the catalyst for me to overcome my AF. However, I remain concerned that directly treating AF is the logical equivalent of removing the battery from the smoke alarm, and that holding people's attention onto their AF rather than on their underlying metabolic disorders is ultimately a disservice. Hence, I hereby request a line on the left side of each page, among the Chat, Files, Bookmarks, etc., entitled something like " Relationships " that points to a page explaining how other things like undiagnosed metabolic disorders are probably behind most cases of AF, and that AF is behind other conditions like stroke and CHF, and explains the common cause and effect relationships on both sides of AF. I'll write the page if you'll install the prominent pointer to it. This way, our group should be able to achieve its potential WITHOUT holding people here who should be looking elsewhere, thereby achieving the benefits while avoiding the hazards. That my particular AF has apparently gone away with only 1/4 grain of thyroid hormone certainly underscores the need to directly treat AF only AFTER addressing other affecting factors, especially considering AF is such an important indicator of the sorts of underlying things that might be wrong elsewhere. Once I learned to use my AF as the indicator it is, I was led fairly directly to the underlying cause (see my numerous prior posts to view my journey). In retrospect, whe WORST thing I could have done would have been to do something " miraculous " (like many of our members are looking for) to directly eliminate my AF, and thereby leave untreated my bloated tummy, irregular bowels, lowered temperature, cold sensitivity, memory impairment, etc., etc. Steve ========= > > > Hi every body perhaps I am trying to rule the world, hopefully not and I > would dearly love not to have to look at any support board for help but in > our case this is the only option we have at present. > > I have trawled through the search engines and found there is little to no > information on AF unless you know where to look.
